  • Outdoor PA suggestions?

I'm part of an autocross club and we need to improve our PA system. Right now we have a very rudimentary setup with 2 horns and a tiny amp. The amp is a bit flaky. Plus it doesn't really cover the whole venue.

We need something waterproof cheap efficient and loud. Sound quality isn't a concern. It needs to be audible for about 500 feet. It only needs to carry voices. Music would be an afterthought. We would be looking for used and probably not DIY.

Try to find some used Community R1 horns or used Technomad speakers, both completely weatherproof.

"...cheap efficient and loud." Like paging horns?

"Sound quality isn't a concern." Neither is speech intelligibility?

Right now we've got 2 paging horns. It might be enough just to replace the current amp with one that will push the signal 4 ways instead of 2 and get 2 additional ones.

Speech needs to be intelligible, but that's about it. This is just being used for announcements. Plus, we probably need to keep the current draw to around 200 watts max.

If your 2 paging horns are matching, & you're kinda-sorta happy with them, then find 2 more of the same so there won't be any EQ and/or loudness differences. If you decide to replace it all, check out some used stuff from Atlas:
