Hi all! New guy on the block needing a little help. I usually hang at the Jazz Guitar Forum and TDPRI. I'm currently using a sealed cabinet for jazz guitar housing a 10" Seismic Audio speaker (8 ohm) - it's powered by a G&K MB200 class D bass head that delivers 140 watts into the 8 ohm load. The combination works pretty well but I'm thinking about building a ported cabinet for better bass response and opening up the sound a little. I'm thinking along the lines of the Raezer's Edge type design. I have a couple 8 ohm JBL MI 10's sitting around and was thinking of using them in a pair of cabinets @ 8 ohms each, with the result that, if needed, using them both in parallel would let my amp deliver it's full 200 watts into 4 ohms. My problem is coming up with the proper design parameters for cabinets using these speakers - the JBL site is not much help, although I do have the TS design data for the speakers, I need some software to plug it into - preferably something that I can understand. Ultimate result is a pair of small, light guitar cabs with good frequency response. I generally use pine for my cabinets (with plywood baffle) as it's readily available, lightweight, affordable and, in the small sizes, stiff enough for the job. I need to come up with the cabinet volume and port area before I can start building. Am I also correct in assuming that, in a cabinet such as this, a port tube would not be required - that just the opening, sized properly is sufficient?
Thanks for your help!!
