Re: I have some newbie questions about Behringer Inuke NU1000DSP

Nice, I just placed the order for the following items:
    1) a pair of JBL GTO1214 12" subwoofers
    2) four 4 pole male speakon connectors
    3) two 4 pole flush mount female speakon jacks
    4) two 1/4" TS male to RCA female adapters
    5) one RCA splitter
    6) one 6' stereo RCA cable
    7) one Behringer iNuke NU1000DSP amplifier plus one Samson Meteor microphone (order placed yesterday)

Now I just need to build the cabinets. My intentions are to build a pair of 22"W x 22"D x 36"H cabinets with two internal braces and held together with dowels, screws, glue and sealed with caulk. I plan to round all of the edges later with a router. They will be tuned to 20 Hz with a 4" in diameter flared port at both ends. The cabinets will have a net volume of about 7.8 cu ft after finished. I plan to paint them glossy black and I'll try to add some silver metallic patterns. Also a metallic silver decorative grill for the sub and port. If I can't find them already made I guess I can build them myself. I have spent around $400 so far in the project and if I can keep the cost of the cabinets at around $100 the total cost of the project will be around $500. That will be about $250 per subwoofer. That will beat the SVS SB-1000 being two subs vs one for the same cost. Not bad for my first DIY project!

According to WinISD the subs will have a fairly flat response down to 20 Hz with no equalization with a F3 of 17 Hz. I can always use the parametric EQ to calibrate everything. To keep excursion at acceptable levels I won't be able to feed them more that 150 watts which is below the rated power of the amp. The highest excursion point will be at 30 Hz at which excursion will be at 12.7mm. I think that the subs will do pretty well on those cabinets and with that amp.

I would like you to share your thoughts about the project and if you have any suggestions for the cabinets I'm all ears!

I still think you should gone with the 3000DSP instead.

What's the mic for? If for measurement purposes, a better buy would have been the Dayton calibrated USB mic, which could be used with free software like REW or HolmImpulse to perform very accurate FR measurements.

Re: I have some newbie questions about Behringer Inuke NU1000DSP

I bought that amp cause I was accepted for a payment plan and they didn't have the 3000DSP available. The minimum purchase was $250 and the amp was only $199.99 so I fell short for qualification. I really didn't need something else from the store so I decided to check for microphones to be used with REW which I have been postponing because the amp and subs are a priority. They don't have the Dayton Audio mic or Umik-1 so I browsed for usb alternatives. The cheapest usb one with alleged flat frequency response was the Samson Meteor. There are others but way more expensive. I had my doubts about the mic so I searched Google for reviews and then I found the Top Ten Reviews article. It is positioned number five in the article compared to more expensive mics and that convinced me to get it. I also found more reviews from happy users, but no REW tests but I guess that if all those users are happy with the mic then is good enough for REW. Since I needed the payment plan I was pretty much tied to the options offered by Zzounds.com.

I can still return the order and get the amp, the Behringer ECM8000 Measurement Microphone and the Behringer 302USB USB Audio Mixer and Interface which can be connected to the computer. When I noticed that I have already placed the order for the amp and Samson mic. The Behringer mic and mixer will be more expensive than the Samson alone but not by much. Is it really that crucial to get another mic than the Samson? If it's not that crucial I rather not return the present order. I fear that if I return that order I will not be accepted for a payment plan when I place the new order. So what do you think, will it be worth the trouble to return the present order and place a new one for the amp, mic and mixer? In the other hand, is the Samson mic good enough to be used with REW plus save some money and the trouble of returning the present order?

Do you think is possible to go sealed with this sub in a 5.6 ft3 cabinet?
