  • Crown XLS 1500 Measurements?

I'm considering using this as a high-power mains amplifier in a home theater & music setup but find myself wondering: What is the response like into various impedances? I tried to use google, but I don't see any published data. Many class D amplifiers have vary wild treble responses into loads from 2 to 16 ohms, so I think this is something worth investigating.

Anyone have any information on the XLS Drivecore performance in this aspect?

Interesting. I looked at the pages on the Crown site. Specs look about the same, but a face lift I suppose.

I wonder if it the DSP features now match what's available with the Behringer iNuke models?

Hopefully it will. The current gen is very limited.

The DSP capabilities of the Behringer iNukes was the main reason I chose them over the Crown offerings. Only a few more things would have made them just perfect IMO: 1. Ability to sum the input channels to mono, 2. Network as well as USB interface, and 3. Line-level pass through, all of which should be easy to implement.

I got the crown due to low noise.

To be honest I haven't noticed any issues with noise with my Behringer iNuke 3000 DSP. OTOH, I don't listen to my speakers with my ear up against the tweeter either :-).

The response at high frequencies can dependent on speaker impedance. It's not that difficult to address this though, if it does need addressing.

I don't believe there are any DSP features other than the bandpass option, which wasn't there before. That's the only thing I can find on their website that's different "dsp" wise.

FWIW, I'm considering going with the new amps simply based on aesthetics (black amps match my current amp rack and gear) and would therefore need to sell my current XLS amps. I have three xls1500, and one each of the xls2000/xls2500. if anyone is interested shoot me a PM.

Crown never advertised any DSP features for the Drivecores. All they ever said was integrated crossovers. A long way from DSP in my view.
I certainly don't consider my Behringer CX2310 Crossover to be "DSP"
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

If they're implemented digitally, then technically it's "DSP", even though it may be very basic.

The DSP built into the iNuke amps removes the need for external equalizers, limiters and x-overs. And you can store and recall twenty settings, which makes setup quite a bit easier. I think it would be nice to see something equivalent from Crown.
