  • The Cigarellos

These are a small cigar-box sized single driver speaker designed specifically for a desktop. I was looking for something to use in our small home office/craft room for my wife. The enclosures are a tiny 6.5x6.5x4.5" of 1/2" 9ply BB mitered at all joints with a 1" port and an fb of about 90. The f3/6/10 is about 90/80/70. The finish is just 3 coats of hand rubbed tung oil. Silly me, forgot to mention the driver. Though it is listed in the schematic. Dynavox LY401F The 90db is accurate too. This was the level I used to take all of the measurements.

    Edit: corrected circuit

Nice, smooth response. Don't recall seeing that driver used before. What's the second notch do?

Tames the upper response just a bit. I could have used it to really flatten the top, but then the off-axis really suffered. So i backed off the resistor and let the top end rise a little.

Chuck- I'm not seeing how that notch will work as you have it shown in the schematic. The way I see it- you'll be highpassing everything with that 0.22uF cap. Are you sure you have it drawn correctly?

I've attached the transfer function of the schematic you've drawn.

                Later,

Good catch Ben. I goofed the schematic. That is supposed to be a series lcr in parallel with the driver. I will fix that. Got in to much of a hurry

They sound quite nice. Need a sub to play low, but they are not fatiguing. I didn't design these for critical listening as they are mostly background. I am powering them with a stellar labs amp and really enjoy them

Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.
