This project was fun as there was minimal woodworking which left more time for listening. I did compare the response with and without the grill and on axis there very little difference.

Nice! Should be a decent upgrade from the BR-1. And having prebuilt cabinets available make it a great first project for newbies. FWIW, first link to the .pdf write-up doesn't work.

Nice job, really like the idea of using pre-made cabinets, always makes for an easier build (and faster). Looks like a great combo of drivers and the measurements show a very balanced speaker. Like the write-up, well done on your first project posting for the "team". You don't mention it, but how do the DS175's hold up in the bass region, you got some pretty low bass from them? Decent SPL I am guessing?

Paul, this is a true 100 dB design so it holds up quite well. F3 is 41 so that's not bad for a 6.5 inch speaker in this price range. A pic from unibox is shown below. The breakup of the aluminum cone made me use a tank on the x-o to push the breakup down a bit more than usual.

This looks like a fun project for a beginner with limited tools. Simple, fast, and rewarding. Just enough to get em hooked and ready for more. Nice work John.

Looks good John. How do you like the new DSA drivers?

I think the DSA drivers have a niche just below the RS drivers. Surface mount, good looks, model well and decent distortion and price are pluses. Still have to deal with the breakup and stamped frame, but definitely high value.
