I've reached a stopping point on my Classix II and have started on some Amiga's. Lovely woofer, tweeter feels quite nice for the cost, very rigid plate for being plastic.

Crossovers are put together, annoyed by one of the inductors but as the leg didn't want to play how I wanted so it sticks out a bit. Boy I don't know what I'd do without these pcb's you can order on ebay.

I was about to glue the cabinet but had a thought. Can these be turned into a ported bookshelf with a higher tuning instead of the sealed 8-11 litre option mentioned on Paul's site? If so, I could just cut the MDF cabinets down and end up with four bookshelf cabinets. Looks like Oceanway has their new Pro3 monitors that utilize the rs180, but who knows what the active xover looks like. I figure a smaller cabinet is going to be easier to get the finish I want on it. I suppose I could go with a sealed version and use a sub, but the 8-11 litre box seems really small to me?

What's the size (now) of the cabs you'd be cutting in half?

It's just the cnc'd MDF in the amiga kit. It wouldn't be a even cut in half but cut to whatever size reaches the appropriate volume.

You could. I mean, you're not exactly going to plumb the depths, but you might get another 5-10 Hz of bass extension, which might be nice.

Say if you had an 11 Liter cabinet, you could use a 1.5" vent, about 5" long. This should tune the cabinet to 41 Hz, and will get an F3 of 59 Hz. Again, not going to rumble the seats, but might help a bit to fill out the bottom end.

I would be really interested to see how a smaller version works for you . I am going to be building the Amigas soon also . please keep us posted . I also love those PCB boards too , They work great aand look great too !

Hmm, probably a bit too high of an f3 for my usage. I'm going to keep the cabinets as is. Just curious what the roll off is on the sealed 8-11 liter cabinet.

Also after hearing the port tuning of the Classix, I just kind of want that extension again. I was listening to a lot of the stuff on the classix ii and went to turn off the sub to see what they do without it. The sub was already off. How about that.

Got cabinets together aside from the baffle. Undecided on what to do there. I kind of dig the old school look of a painted baffle and veneer'd cabinet. I've also never veneer'd anything and unsure about doing the round overs on the baffle.

Glued together and clamped them over night, put drivers in this morning, just had to hear them. Probably the best mid range I've heard on a speaker. Time to look into veneer options.

Got them in the studio, I find they sit perfectly with a low shelf of +1db starting at 120hz and I have a high shelf from 3k up at -1db. I was curious if there a way to modify the crossover to drop the tweeter down 1db? Probably easier to keep that in the digital domain I'd image. I have the 59 tweeter with the 2.4ohm resistor. With those EQ settings the speaker is great in room.

And holy cow the low end is amazing on these things.

Rough ROT is that adding 1 ohm in series (somewhere along the HP) will attenuate by about -1dB.

Thanks, I'm going to wait for a new amplifier for them to arrive before I make any judgements. Just used a little smsl sa36, it's a nice little amp for testing to make sure things work but ~8w peak is probably not going to give me an accurate representation of the speakers.

They look really good . I started my Amiga build this weekend . Can't wait to hear them . Funny I went with the baffle only kit and my front baffle has squared edges , and that is what I wanted because
I am building a custom enclosure . The rounded ones look sweet though , they just wouldn't have matched my entertainment center .

Got an aiyima a07 in and it provided a nice improvement for the amigas. I don't really think the sensitivity of these speakers is an issue at all, this little amp only does like 33w x2 @ 8ohm and that is plenty.

After listening for awhile I think the balanced between the woofer and tweeter is fine, no need for my previously insisted high shelf. I will say I feel they lack just a touch of air which is easily added back in with a single filter. I have mine on some stands to get them to ear height while sitting. I'm consistently surprised by the low end output of the speaker and how clean it feels, they don't seem to lose coherency in the midrange when the cone is moving quite a bit.

Here's my in room response no eq, got some corner and ceiling treatments in here. Not much I can do about the front wall cancellation, but the rest is great. That is easily the flattest mid bass I've ever had without eq. There is even a desk in front of them but I'm not seeing the usual ~150hz reflection that I've seen with all my other speakers and this desks interaction. I wonder why that is?

I sure love these speakers, but they don't like the room I have them in. I'm in a 11x14 foot room with some corner bass trapping, and I'm about to put 4x4' panels to my left and right. Hopefully that helps get rid of a bit of the room. Haven't had much luck with this space with any speaker really. I do have another room that's 12x14 that I might try to move into.

I had a question about veneer.

I'm kind of unsure of what to buy. It seems like a PSA veneer is the easier way to go. Is this is a decent product?

I use PSA veneer. You can do two cabinets in an afternoon easily. You have to clean out your router bit after every pass. The adhesive gums up the roller.

I can't vouch for your particular item or vendor. I use natural wood PSA veneer bought on Ebay.
