  • Dayton Epique build

I built three pairs of these bookshelfs for friends of mine. I think they turned out great.
They each have a Dayton RS fabric tweeter, a 5.5" Epique driver and a 7" Epique passive radiator.
    All in a 0.2^ft enclosure.
Big thanx to Toid for crossover guidance and Tom Zarbo for his veneering videos.

Is that some birds-eye maple on the top? I like the look of the contrasting veneers. Very nice!

Yes it is. With walnut wrapped around. Thank you.

Awesome looking creation! It looks aggressive somehow.
I find I often build multiples of speakers as well.
rWhat do you think of how they sound?

I would say they sound Epique but, that may be redundant. They sound very neutral to me. The bass has heft to it. Palpable, thick, weighty. Everything else (mids, highs) all sound excellent. I would say the only negative is the sensitivity but, they can take boat loads of power so that makes up for it in a way. I think the Epique driver/passive with the massive surrounds are what give them the aggressive touch. I made six carbon copies and surprisingly no glaring mistakes, which is good for me. The response graph is not an accurate 1w/1m. They are probably about 80db sensitivity. Also, the low frequency roll off starting around 50hz can be misleading. They may not reach the bottom on the graph, but most people wouldn't know that if just listening to them and not seeing the graph. Room gain is not a myth.
