  • Other's Projects I've Built

Here are the projects I have built from the talented folks around here:

Started simple with the Golden Boys from PE showcase (notice I forgot to mirror-image them, glad it was the garage speakers!)

    Build album: http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p...ys%20-%202006/

Then filled out a 5.1 HT for In-laws (TB 740C Sub and LouC's Nugget 2 Surrounds to go with Polk L/C/R)

    Build album: http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p...01%20-%202006/

    Build album: http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p...2s%20-%202006/

    Next were LouC's Cryolites

    Build album: http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p...es%20-%202007/

Andy, I am glad to see my stuff being put to good use

You also have tremendous build skills. It all looks fantastic.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

              Hey Andy,

Nice looking line up. Since you have heard both, how do the cryolites stack up with the Schticks? The Schticks have been one of my top designs. Very clear sound. Some of the best vocal presentation I have heard. Wolf's Twigs had a very similar sound. I have always wanted to do a pair of the Cryolites though.

                Hi Don,

Like you mention, its the mids that really shine with the Shticks and the fact that they are very nearly full-range, too.
I prefer them over the Cryolites in most cases. For smaller rooms or closer seating situations, I prefer the Cryolites due to better integration of the drivers (I assume). The Shticks sound better to me in a larger room and sitting a bit further back.
I also like to listen to the Shticks with "warmer" gear (tube and my vintage marantz receiver vs the Onkyo receiver I am using now). I didn't notice the "sharp edge" when listening to them through my Yamaha receiver, but the rooms were very different too. May just be an artifact of the less than ideal small room setup they are in, rather than the reciever running them.
Either way, they sound really good and I wish they were in my main room so I would listen to them more. I have plans to rebuild the Shtick center channel into a lower-profile box so I can move the entire Shtick setup down into the main HT and get rid of the Dali Suite speakers I have now (they are the last commercial speakers I have in the house ;-).

                Best regards, Andy.

ps. Thanks for all the compliments from everyone as well.

Ah another Microbe owner? Its a great little old design. I have a variant pair that use the Vifa ring radiator tweeter.

What do you think of em? I'm not sure they're the extreme value that they used to be with such inexpensive designs like the Overnight Sensations around anymore but my Microbes are universally loved by all my friends, they are little giant killers.

I agree, especially when combined with the matching Cerberus sub I built. They make a really nice small format setup.
I really like to listen to them in our study they have a nice smooth sound when not pushed too hard. I usually plug the ports when using the sub, but either way they sound very nice to my ears.

I really like your finish work and veneer choices. Nice to know someone's built some of my designs -- and seems to like them. If you ever get the bug to upgrade the Shticks to the B3 drivers, I think you'll get that last 5% out of 'em.
