  • My humble offerings

I learned my carpentry and painting skills working in theatre. Everything I build looks really good... from 10ft or more away! Oh well. I still have fun!

    fe103e OB w/ Alpha 15 in H-Frame

First speakers I built. Design came from Martin King and his work published on http://www.quarter-wave.com I still get goose bumps from these things.

      Tabaq

A design I found on another forum. A pair of single driver speakers using Tang Band w3-926sd. I made these as a gift for one of my staff members. I can't say I'll be replacing my OB w/ H-Frames, but for a single 3in driver I have been impressed.

        mTan-Ken

Another design I found on another forum. After finishing the TABAQ's, I had another pair of w3-926sd Tang Bands and wanted to try something different. I asked the designer of this speaker if my drivers would work and he said that according to the spec's, it shouldn't be a problem. This pair of speakers were made as a gift for my other staff member. Once again, I'm impressed with what can be accomplished with just one 3in driver in a good design.

I'm not a big fan of full range, but I like the look of these black & yellow bumble bee's! VERY COOL

I've had some fun with single drivers. Looks like you've spent some time over at DIY.

Does MLK's OB design sound as good as has been described?

              Re: My humble offerings

Thanks for the compliment Jerryanderson. The color schemes are actually school colors. My Prod. Asst. is getting his Master's from UGA so I went with red&black for his TABAQ's and my Stage Manager has his Master's from Iowa, so his mTan-Ken's are yellow&black. I like the Bumble Bee idea. I've got left over yellow and black... hmmm... Maybe a new project with horizontal stripes?

Hello J.Lee. Yep. Got both designs for the 3in drivers from diyaudio. That forum and this one are the two I spend the most time on learning what different people do approaching different (and sometimes the same) ideas.

You can see a full write up of the fe103e over Alpha H-Frame on my thread on diyaudio titled: MJK OB over H-Frame Finished. I use the same name of gvimhoof and the write up was notes from my two staff members. I really L-O-V-E these things, but I built them, so I figured having two pairs of objective ears do the write would be the least biased. I think my final tally was ~$500 for the speakers, but I bought tools and items to go along with it, so that is definitely a guesstimate. I figured it was time I have some tools of my own, so that was part of the justification;).

              Thanks for looking!
