  • Little sub finished.

:D Now that I'm on my computer more, I decided to beef up the speakers. I hated the sound of the old ones but didn't want to spend alot of money on new bookshelf speakers either. So I decided to go with some old tweeters I had and some drivers that were buyouts or on sale from PE. And it had to stay real small.

I used some cheap 1/2" Birch to make the lil enclosures and just applied some Polyurethane to make them look decent. The 2" Aluminun cone drivers are the buyouts from PE. They are crossed over at 160 hz - 4khz .
The Infinity tweeters are from some old component speakers, I once had in my car.
The real star of the whole thing is the 4" Dayton ND105-4. I built a little .225 cubic foot box tuned to 55 hz. The slot port is flared at both ends and is fired down. This little woofer is a monster for it's size. I never thought I could get that much bass out of such a little woofer. :D

The amp for these is from my old Altec Lansing computer speakers I had.

Cool! Each box has the down-firing ND 105?

I believe he's sporting a 2.1 setup, with the ND 105 being the sub. THINK.
      Builds - C-Killa - Speedsters - LithMTM - Talking Sticks - Pocket Rockets - Khanspires - Dayton RS Center - RS225/28A - Kairos - Adelphos - SEOS TD12X - Dayton 8 - Needles - 871S - eD6c - Overnight Sensations - Tritrix (ported) - Lineup F4 - Stentorians - The Cheapies - Tub Thumpers - Barbells - Tuba HT - Numerous subwoofers - probably missing a few...... :p

With the ND-105 bI have hit 36Hz in room at listenable volumes. It is scary what that driver does on the low end. Now oly if after BSC you were not at 77dB eff...

Yea it's a 2.1 set up. I'm thinking about buying some more of the 4" drivers now that I heard them. I might try some new projects using a couple of them for some small HT speakers.
Only reason I tried it out to begin with was the price. They are on sale for $12 right now. For that price and the xmax it has , I thought it may be worth a try. But the lil sub really can shake the walls. It's a 4" sub shaking my seat and at the same time it really sounds good. It's not boomy at all and I really like it. :D
          Thanks ,

            Re: Little sub finished.

This is awesome. Basically the same thing that I am doing for my computer. I ordered 10 od the ND105's because of the extreme low price. I also ordered the 2 inch aluminum cone speakers for 2 bucks.

I am also building new fronts, and only used 3 of the woofers in each enclosure, so I am now thinking of building the computer sub with 4 of the 4 inch daytons. Oh, decisions.

That's a neat set up. I see you beat me to the miniature Orion clones! "I like where your head is at."

                        Re: Little sub finished.

The sub is 9" x 13" x 5.5" using 1/2" wood . I have the back panel where the inputs are sunk in 1/2",I don't know if you can see it in the pics or not. I did that to kinda match the desktop speakers. The port is 1/2" x 4.5" x 7.9" and flared out the front and rounded over on the inside.
Thanks so much for all the kind words on these. I know they are not much to look at , because I didn't spend a lot of time on the woodwork. ;)

silly question, how did you wire the sub?

                              Re: Little sub finished.

It's wired normal phase and I soldered the leads. And there is no acoustic or deadening treatment to my enclosure at all.
                              Thanks ,
