    Re: My TV stand project

The Hoff?? Shoot, I thought I had deleted that one... haha, I actually went to my imageshack pictures to make sure he wasn't there.

On a serious note, still waiting for the silicone to cure... I put female disconnects on the wire today, drilled pilots for the screws, all I have to do is mount the speakers. Here's a pic with the grills on, but no speakers underneath.

I'll probably mount the speakers tomorrow or Sunday, we'll see how the caulk is by then.

I decided this morning that the caulk was just about there, so I went ahead and mounted the speakers! It looks awesome and sounds even better! I'm really happy with the way this turned out. I'm excited to watch some movies and listen to some music!

that really turned out well. congradulations on the compleation. maybe in the future you could get a 7 or 9.1 with the upper position to widen the soundstage up front.

You worried about cooling for your receiver, cable box, etc in there? I think I remember seeing that you put fans in the back? Are they sufficient or does it still get hot?

But nice job man, looks amazing!

Awesome project! This has to be one of the best examples of thinking outside the box...when building a box. :p Can't wait to hear your impressions!

                      Thanks for all the comments!

I really enjoy listening to this project. It gets compliments every time we have guests over.

The mains are great for music, they play clean and as loud as I can stand with well-recorded music. Poorly recorded stuff is pretty evident. Imaging suffers because they are so close and non-adjustable, but there is a semi-sweet spot for 1! They're great for casual jamming while we're doing things around the apt. I have a Dayton Titanic in its own crazy "box" handling the low-end duties.

Although the tonal characteristics between the mains and center channel are slightly different because of the crossover, the center does great for movies because it is a little more efficient in the midrange. The dialogue cuts through the surround effects and is never lost in the action. The center channel is very clean and powerful - it has been great for all types of movies.

The only problem so far is the bottom bows slightly under the weight of the electronics, so i'll need to put something under there to support it. Other than that, everything is great!

I didn't do any fans, and I don't think heat will be an issue. I've felt the receiver after an hour or two of cranking and it was only warm. It is open from front to back where the electronics are, so I think any heat should easily dissipate.

You probably have enough structure in the center channel, but if you're bracing the bottom shelf, it wouldn't hurt to continue that brace up to the middle of the center channel. Your components probably weigh more than the TV, but their weight is distributed. All of your TV weight is dead center and doesn't have a direct support to the ground. Just a thought. Everything looks awesome. I would go grill-less for looks until kids or pets come around (is Tubby still around?).
