I figured i could start this thread, the speakers should be finished tomorrow evening. This has been a lot more than a speaker build for me, it was really a reinvention of my apartment workspace. It's very small, but these days a refuse to live without two screens. The majority of my schoolwork takes place digitally, and it's really advantageous to have the screen real-estate. Unfortunantly, having two big LCD's kills my desktop space, so i came up with a solution to that in conjunction with the speaker build, and it all kinda came together.
The speakers were of course inspired by Chris Roemer's "Nano Neos," and much credit goes to him for helping me with the design of the MTM's, which i think i'll simply be calling "Neo MTM" for the time being.
I'm terrible at documenting a project. Once i get going, i really don't want to stop. That was especially the case with this project, as i was using my university's student woodshop and time was often limited. The facilities are brand new (just in time for me to graduate, of course) are a really a thing to behold. I was really only limited by my time and limited familiarity with the vast number of tools at hand. Anyway, over the last week, i've slowly been getting things together, and today i finished cabinet construction.

The front baffles are not yet attached. I can't get my arms through the cutout's, so i haven't quite worked out how the final assembly stage is going to go yet. :D
So as i said, i had a deskspace issue to solve, and speakers to build. I came up with this concept:

How was i going to mount that LCD up there? i don't know, i'll figure something out
Well, a few years ago, i found myself constantly in need of an adjustable near field work lamp, so i built this:

With a little bit of blood (and smoke from my ears) (and precarious LCD positioning) i ended up with this a few days ago: (sorry for the terrible picture)

I was able to modify the base of my LCD and the lumber lamp to make a surprisingly sturdy cantilever'd mount. The lamp itself, if anyone's curious, is a cluster of 3 Phillips Luxeon 1 watt LED's powered by a cheap PC ATX power supply.
Now, the speakers can take there positions on the sides of my screens.
I'm not doing anything revolutionary with the speaker boxes, but i did want to give one thing a shot. I've used rubberized undercoating as a vibration dampener before, and thought it may be useful for adding some mass to the enclosure and deadening the internal sound a bit. So, i picked up a can of Duplicolor rubberized undercoating from Advance Auto and gave the insides a good 1/16". I've also got egg crate foam from PE that's going in there, and maybe some stuffing after the fact if i think it's needed. I promise to take my real camera with me to the shop tomorrow and document the final stages. I'll have more pictures up tomorrow or thursday! thanks for looking!
