  • Tent Sale Speaker Build

At the 2010 PE Tent Sale my son picked up some drivers, cabinets and other parts. He then ask me to build a speaker set from these for use on his Boat.

So, here is what I came up with.

They are a sealed 3-way in a PE 1ft3 cabinet. The Tweeter is the Beston RT003c, Mid is the HiVi M4n, and the Woofer is a 6.5" 6ohm, blue coned something?? (does measure good).

The goal was to have something that would sound good "open-air" and alittle water would not hurt it, plus could be carried about.
So its sealed, redgarded and has closed cones. plus I put guards on the corners and a top handle.

What I did not expect was for them to sound so good. These ended up sounding way too good to be only used on a boat at the lake.

I will post XO and measurements later.

Let me know what you think.

    Hey Froste,

Glad they turned out well... I've still got to reconcile the blue and gold drivers although it's almost college football season maybe a blue and yellow Michigan wolverines baffle would help ;)

    Take it easy

The blue on is a Dahlquist/Bravox woofer. The 5.5" blue version and the 6.5" black version both measured pretty decently, so it is no suprise the 6.5" blue one measured well.

Fun project, right up my alley.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

I'd like to hear your impressions of that Beston circular planar. I've really liked the other two Bestons.

Lou, I like the RT003c, it has a nice clean highs and very good off-axis sound.
It measures and sound a lot like the HiVi Rt1L. The only down side is its build quility. It is easy to work with, few XO parts, the small horn helps on the off-axis, but still needs to be crossed above 2Khz. Because of its looks and surface mount I would have a hard time using it again.
