  • Impresario build (complete & updated)

I wanna start by saying I'm very pleased with the performance of this set and thank you Curt C. Previously in another post I mentioned that the bass was a little lacking and someone responded with "there probably under powered". Well yes they were and in addition I had the tweeter and mid wired backwards. On the crossover schematic its labeled right but Ignored it not knowing that speakers are designed with polarities reversed. After finally being satisfied with my first speaker set build I went out and bought a more powerful receiver (Onkyo 1008), WOW what a improvement! I think now its time to move on to some khanspires or statments!!:

Very nice job, especially for a first set.

Edit: I just noticed your shop. I'm jealous, and I'm sure most people on the board will be as well.

No kidding, good thing my wife just had her knee replaced. If she could make it to the basement she'd scream after I just finished my last set of speakers. My only excuse for not cleaning up is having to take care of her.

          Nicely Done!

It's not a trivial task to produce these, and your woodworking skills are showcased here...

          I hope you enjoy them.

the top looks like a solid piece of poplar, or just multi layers of mdf? very nice looking build. is the wife pleased as well?

Man, I really like these speakers. Fantastic job on building those curved enclosures too! Is that black vinyl or painted? And then I'm assuming veneer on the front? I need to build some mains in the coming months. I was going to just do a Tritrix TL to match my other speakers, but these have caught my interest now! Can anybody comment on how they would compare to something like the Tritrix TL? And for that matter, this new Aviatrix design?

Really nice build! Are your front baffles solid wood or simply birch ply or something similar?

I was considering using a solid piece of poplar but I went with MDF layers, and Yes they have a good S.A.F.!

the front baffle is a light affordable hardwood called Poplar. Only because I messed up some cuts on my Mdf sheet and had some poplar left over from another project.

Its just regular black gloss paint that I should have rolled on instead of brushed, it turned out ok but i might end up re-finishing them. This is a solid hardwood front. I can't imagine the tritrix coming close to the volume these produce but the tritrix might have better bass extension. That would be a good question for Curt C. or Arlis.

Beautiful job! These have been on my *want* list since I built a pair of Wayne's D-3s 5 years ago. Always been intimidated by the end caps. Nice shop too, btw!
