SP10 build

OK, Thanks to Pete. I am building a new sub based on the SP10 and 2 CSS 10" passives. The cabinet is 1.3 cu.ft. I will be putting up some pics. later today :D. Time to get back to work on it.

Does that brace support the SP10?
Honestly something like that would be, IMO, a good idea. Take a lot of stress off the basket flange.

Thanks and Yes, The brace does support the back of the driver. The thing is very heavy and I got the idea from someone on the board.

Good idea bracing that thing, I remember that one thread about the sub someone built that was destroyed in shipping. That huge magnet killed the basket, of course, it will never be known how far they had to drop the package to do it. :rolleyes: I still say it may have been a defect in the alloy used, it's a fair amount of material, should be quite strong. Anyways, nice lookin so far, any ideas for a finish? Also, are those the passives that have the mass added from the front? They look cool. :D

OK, It has been about a week of listening and I am very happy with the set-up. I have the mains crossed over @ 100Hz. using my onkyo TX-SR806. The dayton 1000 watt amp is set to 3/4 gain and I am still playing with the EQ on it, But the bass is nice and tight. When I first got it all hooked up the sound was not to my liking and after playing around with the built in EQ on the onkyo and placement of the sub, also breakin on all the new drivers, it is starting to sound very good. On some recordings I think that the highs need alittle padding and on others recordings they sound perfect, I will wait and let everything breakin more before I make any changes. I would really like to thank MR. Pete Schumacher for all of his awsome help and knowledge, He has done a nice job on the X-overs for the mains and the tuning on the sub. Now that I have a new 7.1 I plan to build 4 sorrounds and a ported sub for movies.
DIY is the only way to go, and I could not even come close to the sound that I am getting for the amount of $$ that I have in it :D. I cant wait to get the rest completed!

The sub and speakers look great! Quick question...what drivers are those in the towers?

Thanks, It is a 3 way. The drivers are RS tweeter and the RS150-4 mid and RS150-8 X 2 bass drivers.

In case you're not aware...using the manual EQ disables the Audyssey room correction. It's one or the other, but Audyssey offers much more precise correction at the expense of doing it automatically with no user intervention beyond where to put the mic for each data position. Also, choosing a THX mode and setting Re-EQ=off will give you the Audyssey 'flat' target curve. All other listening modes use the Audyssey 'default' target curve, which enables a similar high-end rolloff to the THX Re-EQ curve, hence Audyssey switching to the flat curve to avoid a double rolloff. If you find you prefer the flat curve, you'll need to disable Re-EQ each time the power is cycled.

Thanks for the info, This onkyo has so many more features than the 939 that I just sold, and I am still trying to figure everything out. I have been playing around with it til I have the surrounds complete. Then its time to hook up the mic. and calibrate.
