      Well a few updates...

After doing some testing with both the Vifa XT25 and the LCY110 ribbons, I've decided to run the LCY's. More just a personal taste thing as both sounded excellent, just different "flavors" if you will. Plus I felt that the LCY's had nicer off-axis response which I'd prefer in my room.

Got some work done on the MTM baffles tonight. Recesses and cutouts done. They need a little touch up in a few spots, but not too bad for a first timer, I think. Also need to chamfer/cove the rear of the plates but my toes and hands are frozen so it'll have to wait until tomorrow or Friday. Haven't done the woofer panel cutouts yet but those should be an absolute breeze compared to these so I'm not too worried there. A few pics are below (a few minutes with a razor blade and some sand paper and these should be pretty decent)

When laminating 2 pieces together like that, I would definitely use more clamps.

        Great build!

          Thanks !

Yeah, I definitely have a need for more clamps as realized with this project :o
I'll be sure to grab more before the next build.

Well, got some more work done, but also made some more work for myself by screwing up

I tapped and glued in the hurricane nuts, did the driver recesses and cutouts for the remaining panels and cut the 45 degree angles on the baffles. Did some chamfering of the rear of the baffles as well. Problem is, i had a little mishap on one of the panels and a few nicks on some of the others (I think my buddy's table saw needs a new blade). All in all though, I think they are all useable. I brought out the body filler to get started on them. (I was going to need to do a little spot work anyways to make sure things are smooth). Using Rage Gold filler. If you havent yet, it is VASTLY superior to Bondo in that it is easier to spread and mix, and sands sooo much easier. Of course, its more expensive, but a little goes a long way and the reduced sanding time/effort is worth it alone, to me.

            Anyway, a few pics...

After looking back at the pics, I think I may have gone too shallow on the chamfering of the baffles for the mids :o Thats what a 1.5" thick baffle does to you. Looks like I'll be doing some more routing this evening...

I had done the recesses for the drivers previously and after test fitting the LCY tweeters, they still needed a deeper recess so I sacked up and routed another 1/4" out free hand. The flanges on these are incredibly thick! I was nervous when I first started using the router since it was my first time, but it's actually quite stable and easy to control once you get a feel for it. That said, I have gained a real respect for just how accurate and clean many of the builds are here. You guys ceratinly have alot of attention to detail!

After some sanding and another round of filler, I think these will be pretty close to ready for assembly and finishing. I have the wiring and the binding posts ready and will begin on that tonight as well as getting the cabinets lined with the acoustic material/stuffing. Should hopefully have some more pics and updates tomorrow...

                  Thank you, thats very kind

Speaking of inspirational, I got started down this path thanks to Dan's "Blades" build which you can see here: http://techtalk.parts-express.com/sh...d.php?t=216510 and here: http://htguide.com/forum/showthread....ighlight=Build

Before I started, I asked permission to build a design for myself based visually off of his blades...a true work of art! Im sure mine wont compare sonically to his, (much different designs, and totally different drivers- not to mention passive vs active) but for a first time builder, Im excited at the potential there. I think it was a bit ambitious to start off with something this difficult out of the gates, but I enjoy a good challenge That and the people here in the PE forum community have been awesome with helping a rookie out.
Alot has been learned already from this process that will help me to build better and smarter on future projects.

First round of sanding is done. Looks like these will smooth out just fine. I like to mark the areas before applying the filler as you only have so much time before it starts to cure so working quickly is a must. About 5 minutes of work time to spread and apply so its best to mix up small batches.

Second round of filler is now applied.

                    A few quick pics...

Looking very good! You are going to have a pair of very heavy cabinets there. I'm not sure my back would let me carry them out of the shop! Too many years with a camcorder on one shoulder...;)

Yep, heavy for sure. I expect they will be in the 75-90lb range when assembled. Hopefully they wont be moving too much though once I get them set.

                            Thanks Links

I'd love to at some point. Seems like most of the meets are pretty far from the Philadelphia area though. I believe there used to be some events in the DC area which would be doable, but I havent seen anything recently.
Oh, and Im not sure how well it would integrate with the field being an active design ;) I'd probably have to bring all of the amplification along. :D

Oh, I lived in Phil. a couple years. Glad I'm here now. Maybe NY. or NE, what's 8 hours travel, we do to Ind. or Iowa.

Final sanding is done on the baffles. They came out pretty smooth so the "oops" marks shouldnt be an issue. Next up, the spot touch up/fill/sand on the cabinets.
