  • My Tritrix 3.1 setup

Hi all! I built these a few months back and just got around to taking some pics. I built a sealed Tritrix MTM center channel, sealed Tritrix MT mains, and a Dayton Reference 12" ported sub.

The plans are to move the MT mains to surrounds later on when I built a nicer set of mains (Tritrix TL kit or similar). Enclosures are 3/4" MDF, finished in Band-It Red Oak veneer, with Duplicolor truck bed liner baffles. I used sand-n-sealer on the raw veneer, and then just applied multiple coats of gloss poly, sanding in between coats, and polishing with lemon oil after everything hardened up.

The sub is the RSS315HF-4 in a 3.4 ft3 enclosure with a Dayton 240W amp. I originally had it sealed with 3db of boost at 30Hz on the amp, but wasn't getting as good low-frequency response as I hoped. So I removed the boost from the amp, and ported the box with a 4" Precision Port, tuned to around 22Hz. I had to use a 90deg elbow in the port to make it fit. The port exits through the bottom, and the whole enclosure is up on some bun feet from Lowes, stained with natural wood color Minwax. I also beveled all the edges of the box, which I really like how it turned out, and finished it in the same Duplicolor truck bed coating (3-4 cans approx).

I really like how my home theater sounds now. I have a Pioneer 919AH-K receiver running everything. For now, there's just some cheap Phillips surrounds on the wall, but hopefully that will change soon when I build new mains. At that point, I need to find or build some good wall mounts for those Tritrix MTs also.

    Thanks for looking! :D

I'm assuming that's standard wood furniture polish (e.g. Pledge), which you would know, Joseph, if you ever dusted your apartment, you filthy pig!:p

Eh, the lemon oil polish stuff was just to shine them up after everything was dry and hardened. It a type of furniture polish, but comes in a bottle in liquid form. It really made the finish shine up nice as a final step though.

As far as the finish, I made a couple of test pieces and did some various stains. I liked it the best just using the sand n sealer and poly over top of it. I think the contrast looks nice with a black front baffle and lighter wood. The sub finish was just easy and cheap. Although I hate how dirt shows up on it and is hard to wipe off. If you use a paper towel or something it just shreds and leaves a bunch of residue on it. I don't know if I could do another sealing layer over it or something to make the truck be liner easier to dust.

I might build some grilles for them, not sure yet. I can't wait till later in the year when I can build some new mains!

Oh, and all the driver recesses on the Tritrix were cut before I got a proper jasper jig, Those things are amazing. I got one and used it for my sub port work. The driver holes in my next speaker set will be perfect.
