  • Cigar Box Speakers - fun build!

I've built several pairs of these cigar box speakers out of "La Gloria Cubana" cigar boxes. Fun to build, look nice, conversation pieces! Even my girlfriend, who has no interest in audio, liked these so much that she insisted on building her own, (with my guidance, of course).
I used Dayton aluminum woofers and Peerless tweeters. Using a pair with my computer now. They sound excellent!

Re: Cigar Box Speakers - fun build!

I scoured a few cigar stores and most of them save a few boxes to sell (for $5 a piece). One store had the mother-load, so I cleaned 'em out!

They are built strongly-enough, the walls are 1/4". I approached them as a novelty more than a serious build, so I stuck with just the boxes.

Nice build and very clever, this is what DIY'ing is all about!

Greywarden summed it up. Just too cool!
Did you join them together with just regular wood glue??

Fun! Looking good. Now you should build a matching chip amp, and then a cigar box guitar to play through them.

They are screwed and glued! I really wish I didn't have to glue the slide-on top down so I get into them easily, but it rattled way too much.

Using those boxes is a great idea. Congrats.
