Loving them Dee. Really looking good.

For the tight curve on the back, did you rip individual strips?

And that bracing looks real nice. I LOVE nice looking braces.

Thanks joey. For the tight curve on the back I ripped varying widths of mdf. Then used dowels to join dry fit them together. With help of a hand power planer I curved them to the rough curve of the cabinet. Then belt sanders to get a perfect match and smooth curve. Here you can see the rough curve trying to match the back of the cabinet.

I then cut that one long piece into four pieces. Two pieces were about 6 inches, the other two were about 9 inches long. The 6-inch pieces were used on the top of the cabinets, the longer pieces on the bottom. Hard to see in the picsture, but the tops are shorter than the bottoms. Since the pieces were dry fitted and joined side-by-side with only a dowel, I marked them in order from right to left, took them apart and using a template, flush bit and my router, created the curve down the backside on each piece one by one. Then glued them back together using the dowel to line everything up.

A little bondo and primer and presto!

Everything is primed now. I stayed up until 1:00 last night sanding with 150, then 220, then 400 wet sanding. Smooth as glass and ready for the final paint. Now if the weather will just get above 70 so I can paint.....

                Re: Deewan's various speaker builds

The weather finally gave me the 70 degree temps I needed to paint. Found out the automtoive paint I bought, that was highly "reviewed" is actually of pretty poor quality. Despite using the best methods known and a high dollar sprayer, the paint refused to flash (dry) and adhere to the cabinets. I even used the primer recommended by the paint manufactuer . Long story short, some areas the paint ran and I'll have to sand with some 800 or 1000 grit paper tomorrow and then dial back the sprayer to 'mist' the areas that ran. Once the paint looks better, I'll take closer pictures and of higher quality. But here is another teaser.

                    Re: Deewan's various speaker builds

The paint still being applied in most of these pictures, but even wet you can see the matte finish. Once the paint has dried for a few days, I will determine how many silver pin stripes I will add to the side of each cabinet to help show off the curves. The pin strips will be a silver that matches the two Tang Band midrange drivers. Hopefully these are back up and running by the weekend. I have a TON of new music I have been saving to hear played through the Dynamics.

The bases that will be installed. The cabinets will sit on these bases, leaving only the feet sticking out from the curve of the cabinet.

The bases are made from 3/4 BB, sanded smooth as a baby's bottom, then painted with a Chrome Spray paint. The bases, pin stripes (not applied yet) and titanium midrange drivers will all match.

This truck gave me the idea for the color scheme.

                            Re: Deewan's various speaker builds

After a very long haul, the new cabinets are COMPLETE!!!!

A quick summary. Curved cabinets made using a special order bendy birch plywood. CNC'ed internal braces by fellow PE member Dave_W. Cabinet bases (feet) also CNC'ed by Dave_W and painted using a special chrome paint. Cabinet painted rat rod black (automotive grade matte black) and silver pinstripes. And now, the pictures.

And the matching center channel. I have not decided yet if I will put matching pinstripes on the CC. I'm guessing I will. And for the record, the sub cabinets are not finished. They will be built into a center channel speaker stand and made to look like a piece of furniture.

Fantastic work. Congratulations of the finish. They look like they are in charge of the room.

The matte finish turned out great. Nice choice, as that should dull the reflections from the screen quite well.

I'm going to have to make my way up to CR to see these some time.
