  • Spherical Speaker Enclosure Suggestion

I was reviewing the spherical enclosure requirement for the Sphericles project and thought using a Ball Type Force Cup Toilet Plunger SKU:1825002 from Wal-rich might be a suitable substitute for the spheres. One could also use the
6 inch Ball Type Plunger by Kirkhill Mfg. One could adjust the opening for the Kirkhill Ball Type Plunger for different size speakers by using the rings on the bottom of the plunger as a guide. Don't laugh just plunge right into it.

I used a styrofoam ball ( from Crafts stores etc ) available in many diameters ( including 6" ) as a platform to cast from.
I've also seen glass yardballs used as a mold to which fiberglass is applied.

I found some multi-colored wood bowls on Amazon that are similar to the Ikea bowls everyone uses.

For larger spheres, use the large ***** for kids that are usually in the wire cages in the discount stores for a few bucks. Cut the baffle ring to the size you want & place it against the ball. Draw a line on the ball to mark the baffle. Cover the ball with foil up to the line. Fiberglass the ball up to the line, maybe 2 layers. When cured, pop the ball & remove. Then glass the baffle to your sphere with as many layers as you need to get the required strength. You may also want to incorporate your mounting method at this time. The censor got me - b*a*l*l*s*.

            That's 100 cu. in. ( .06 cu. ft )
            I used a 4" driver in a sphere that size ( ported )
