  • Attitude/Continuum Tower

Built these for my computer room, not my best finishing job but too cold to spray. They are a combo of Wolf's Attitude and Jeff B's Continuum. The Attitude is a Dayton RSS210HF in bottom ported 1 cubic foot enclosure driven by separate Dayton 70 watt plate amps. The Continuum is an Aurum Cantas AC130F-1 and Dayton RS28A-4. The towers are 8 x 11.5 x 43 (w x d x h). I previously built this pair as separates for a gift and decided to build a pair of towers for myself. The pictures are of the separates and my new towers. Thanks again to Wolf and Jeff.

NICE!!! So- how's a pair of the -210's sound to you? I bet you are enjoying these a lot!

Very nicely done, and you're welcome!

      Hi Tim,

Really nice work. Can you tell me more about the finishing on the 1st set you made? Is it solid wood? If so, how did you match the baffle with the box, and if it is veneer how did you work it into the woofer roundover and sub ports?

      Thanks, Andy.

The front baffle is made of solid birch with the remainder of the cabinets made of baltic birch. It is all covered with Karalien birch veneer. For the baffle I covered the entire baffle with veneer then used a utility knife to cut out the removable portion and trimmed both parts flush after removal. For the woofer I cut a 3/4" strip to fit around the inside then routed my 1/4" round over. Same for the ports except I used a 5" long strip and routed with a 3/4" round over. For both I then used a fine artist brush to repeat the grain of the veneer onto the exposed round over portion of solid birch. The attachments may give a clearer picture. Andy hopes this makes some sense if not let me know.

Wolf, Graywarden, Paul, thanks for the compliments however the true artisans are the folks that design the crossovers for speakers. Short of maybe a subwoofer I don't have the intelligence required. Paul I have ordered the parts for your Overnight Sensations and look forward to another build of a great design.

I use these in a small computer room mostly to listen to vinyl. They sound amazing, love the twin 210's and not even broke in yet. Jeff B's Continuum is great match with the 210's. Tempted to try them in the TV room but it would be hard to pull the Mini Statements.

Wolf, Paul hope you missed the 12" of fresh white stuff that fell yesterday. Saturday I could see grass as most of the snow was gone, cars were going through the ice on Lake Winnebago (sturgeon spearing) and today I am reminded spring is not here.

Very nice... Could this be converted into a passive 3-way? Im looking into options for a pasive 3 way using all RS drivers (MT, MTM, or TMM) and the RSS210 to round out the low end. Any options out there?

Really nice job. I absolutely love the faux wood treatment inside the ports. Those should go directly to an art gallery somewhere; they're almost too pretty to use...

Beautiful work, absolutely true craftmanship. They look like they should sell for $20K if they were commercial.

Very interesting speakers, I'm curious to know why you
went this route. Do you have stereo bass? How do you
wire these to your amp? Is it hard to get the adjustment
power set at the right level for everything to gel.

Remember, this is just a sub/sat arrangement that shares a single cabinet. Bass will likely be whatever is mixed in the source. Setting level for the subs will be generally same as any other sub/sat arrangement. Fiddley but not necessarily hard.

Thank you for the reply, why would one go this route as apposed
to a regular 3 way speaker. Seems to me it would be more expensive.

                              Re: Attitude/Continuum Tower

I can see a couple of reasons.
                              1. Three way XO design is more complicated.
                              2. The OP had experience with two successful designs and had a "why not" moment.
                              3. Even with a regular three way, one doesn't always get bass that gets into the subwoofer region.
                              4. I suspect the expense wasn't a significant driver for the OP. Wouldn't be for me either.

Personally, I wouldn't combine two designs into a single tower because of the potential loss of flexibility to place subs. With that said, I am building a pair of subs as speaker stands (a take off on a Paul Carmody thread).
