I know what you mean about being in a bad mood and trying to work. The focus just isn't there and you make mistakes, which makes the mood worse, rinse and repeat. If your like me, your too stubborn to quit when you know you should and come back to it later. In those cases, I just hope that the damage is recoverable later when I'm thinking clearly so I don't have to start over.

1/4" ply as they don't have 1/4" mdf. Before I put the fronts together backwards I was just going to throw a coat of poly on and be done since they are just sitting in my office. Depending on how they clean up in the end will still do that or just paint them black.

What did you use as a building material? How do you plan to finish them?

Yeah balancing on a 3.5" square kind of sucks and being in a bad mood I am sure didn't help things. Once I build a router table will just go over it with the next size up. Should clean it up mostly. The spots around the ports are no where near as bad as the pic makes them look. I don't have any stuffing at all at this point as I didn't realize I did not have any. Will had to go pick some up tomorrow.

I see what you are talking about regarding your routing issues, but I really like how they look overall. Do you have any stuffing in them at this point or are you running them hollow? If you don't have any stuffing, I think you will be really pleased when you add some. I kept adding until the mids started getting dull, then backed off a bit. Could be not having all the screws in too. I know I was listening to one set as I was assembling them and heard a big change when I tightened the last screw.

Not too shabby!! I hooked up one of them in the garage as I was finishing up the second one and it could easily fill the 3 car garage. Sure not tons of low end but nice.

Ok, so I went out there tonight and saw I had glued the port tubes the wrong way in the baffles. I was lazy and didn't put anything under the baffles as I drilled everything out so there was a lot of tear out so now the fronts sucks. I had planned to buy or build a router table to do the round overs but since the fronts sucked I figured I would just do my best doing it by hand. Didn't even touch them with sand paper yet. Soo that is why they look like **** and why I have them done tonight.... Can you tell I was not so happy?


Also can't find my bag of screws so I only have 2 in each driver as that was all I could steal off another project.



Music they sound great and much bigger than they are. Watching TV switching between the ZD3.5c and these the voices sound a little hollow/echoy. I think I need to add a little stuffing. Going to be great computer speakers. Just won't look so hot for now until I get into the mood to clean/finish them up.

just going with your original 2x2.75" ports. Going on my desk and already have a 10" ported sub to cover the low end anyway so not too concerned.

I started on my dual driver ones last night finally. Figured it was time to stop listening to them in a card board box. All the wood and baffles have been cut and one is almost completely assembled. Should have some pics up by this weekend.

Well the signal wire coming loose during my first listening session of the 4 driver array I am using as a center channel was not my first mistake. Tonight I listened to it for the first time on its own, without a left or right main and sub playing with it. The first thing I noticed was it sounded like the drivers in the right chamber weren't working. Holding it closer to my ear I found that they were working, they were just a lot quieter than the drivers in the left chamber. Pulling the two drivers out from the right chamber confirmed my suspicions. I had wired this pair in series instead of parallel so the amp was seeing it as a 16 Ohm load vs. the 4 Ohm load the drivers in the left chamber were presenting to the amp. A quick rewire and WOW, huge improvement. With it now wired correctly, I think a pair of these would do well as patio speakers as long as they are located where the cones won't get wet. I'm currently listening to it with the pair in the right chamber wired to the right channel of my Lepai amp and the left pair wired to the left channel. It is sitting below and in front of my monitor and sounds awesome. I also tried it with the two pairs wired in series with each other on a single channel of the amp and it sounded great that way too.

I made a make shift sub with a Dayton 20 Watt amp and one of the Peerless India 838 buyout 6.5" drivers I have and have been using it with the minions for the last few days. It does a good job of filling in the low end, but have to keep the gain on the sub amp at about 1/3 or it over drives the 838.

If I ran the numbers right, a .75" port 4.5" long or a 1" port 9" long should do nicely. i just ran the numbers in an online calculator. I'm sure one of these other guys could come up with something more accurate.

I was planning to build Wolfs triumph or biumph subs to go with the minions, but with the increase in pricing for the driver used in those, they just went into the unaffordable category, which sucks because it was the only small sub driver.

are you looking to make a micro sized sub?

hmm...what about using a dayton ND105 or ND140 for a mini-sub? the ND105 goes to the mid 40's in the nano neo's....or the woofer used in the overnight sensations? IIRC those dig to the low 50hz range?
