In their final resting place until I decide to refinish them.

      Re: The Minions

Just a word to the wise....try to recognize your mood and stay away from power tools if your head isn't in the right place.

I had a reminder 26 days ago. My head was somewhere else while I was running a drill press w/ a 2" hole saw and was hand holding a small piece of MDF.

Fortunately, I got away without stitches, but it still hurt like heck. Over the next 3 weeks, I went thru a whole box of Band Aids while the piece of meat reattached itself to my thumb. Sorry...I didn't take photos :( because I was trying to keep the blood off the carpet while I went upstairs to practice my first aid technique.

      Be careful out there.

It's been a while since I've had that many monitors on my desk.

Haha dual monitors on 2 machines turned into 4 on 1. Can never have too many right?

Can never be too big either. I quite often have my laptop hooked up via hdmi through my reciever to the projector onto a 130" screen.

                Re: The Minions

I started construction today on a sub to go with the Minions. I am trying the Tymphany 4" buyout driver that Ed used in his Freshman design, because I had a few of them on hand. I built the box yesterday and will cut the driver, port and amp openings when I get home from work in the morning. It shall be named the "SubMinion". I may wind up trying different drivers before settling on a final design if this one doesn't satisfy. I had originally intended on just using Wolfs Triumph sub, but we all know what has happened to the price of those drivers. Not likely that what I come up with will come close to the capabilities of Wolfs design, but hopefully I can come up with something that will mate well with the Minions.

                  Re: The Minions

Ok, completed my first sub design to go with the minions. It uses this amp http://www.parts-express.com/pe/psho...number=300-782 and this driver http://www.parts-express.com/pe/psho...number=299-279. I used a pieceof 2" pvc 6.25" long for the port. Internal dimensions are 7.5" x 9.5"x 7.25". The little amp can easily push the driver to over excursion. That being said, it does an excellent job at moderate to slightly above moderate listening levels filling in the lower frequencies for the Minions. This was a quick attempt with a driver I had on hand. Took it to work when it was still raw mdf and did not have permanent feet attached to get feedback regarding it's performance. It did well with all music we threw at it except the Hip/Hop stuff like "The Pussycat Dolls" with lots of very strong low bass beats. One coworker wants me to build another that can go lower to go with the minions I already built for him (He listens to Hip/Hop) and another contracted me to finish this one and a pair of minions for her daughter (The finished set are pictured below). I think I am going to try one with the 6.5" Cambridge buyout next, but that will have to wait a few weeks until I am back from my vacation in Michigan.

                    Re: The Minions

Wow, I'd always been listening to the sub sitting on something since I built it. Took it down off that speaker and set it on the floor by the wall. Big difference the wall and floor boundaries make. Listening to some "No Doubt" and getting some pretty good thump out of it.

Hey Leroy, Looks real nice. Bet you weren't planning to go into business with the Minions. Better buy up inventory while it's available!

I didn't notice whether you specified the amp you're using. I might have to follow suit to use the Minions I built. :D

The Dayton 25W amp and it is more than enough power. At first I just thought the sub was ok, but since I put it on the floor close to the wall I'm really liking it. I've been playing the set pictured above for hours now. throwing all different genres of music at it.

I'll have to look into the Cherryfest. Sounds like something to do. I usually do the concerts at the Muskegon Summer Celebration, but didn't get a pass this year. Might go to select shows.

I'll be checking in at the body shop while I am up there on my other project that is nearing completion. Paying the body shop, mechanic and upholstery shop may put a big dent in my speaker building budget.
