Beautiful job on the Monitors!! I origenally built them per their plans but never liked the look. Theyre now in front faceted towers and are so much nicer to look at

The designer recommends 2" wedge foam (if I remember right...), I was unable to source it locally, so I used 1.5" flat foam in all the surfaces behind the woofer.

Nice clean look. What's not to love about these? I hope they sound as nice as they look.

Saw these while looking at your other speakers. These are beautiful. Nice job thinking outside the box and making them towers. I love the creativity that is revealed on this board.

Are those magnets holding on your speaker grills???

I can agree with the others. I can't believe I missed this build Silver1omo! bungalow_ed and I collaborated on a pair of Monitors, with him doing the heavy lifting of cabinet construction/veneer (he has a vacuum bag!), and me on the XO assembly and driver installation. Now that I see what you did with the towers, I'm giving myself the old forehead-slap, wondering why I didn't think of it! The cabinet work and rabbet/dado joints are terrific...I can agree with your decision about the MDF. I'm positive you won't have any issues with veneer or the finish, as I can't imagine a cabinet any more stable or solid than what you did. I know you're aware of my career-long experience with OEM speakers, and my Monitors easily exceed the overall SQ and listening enjoyment I have experienced with some of the top high-end retail brands over the years. I have friends that own Dahlquist, Infinity Reference Standard (the 5-figure-priced ones), Martin Logan, Acoustat, RTR, B&W, Meridian, Thiel, Magnepan. They are amazed with the qualities the Statement Monitors possess. One guy had never heard a ribbon or planar tweeter he liked, until he sat down for about an hour with some Telarc-mastered classical music through the Monitors driven by my Emotiva separates (ERC-1 CD player, UPA-2 amp, USP-1 pre-amp). He sat here with his eyes closed and the looks on his face told all. He has the tools and space to build some enclosures, so I'm going to show him your Monitor Tower idea and see what he thinks. He has the Dahlquist D12's and a pair of Logans.

Thanks for the nice comments, yes I'm using magnets in the grills.
At this point the veneer cracked in several places. I'm still thinking how to refinish them. Considering than the "coffee table/chest" and the "rack" are exposed pine ply translam and the recently finished sub is exposed pine ply and black, I may go with simple flat black paint.

If you can find a shade of wood filler that looks acceptable together with your veneer, and if the cracks aren't too terribly large, you might be able to fill the cracks with the wood filler, and then cover everything over with a thick, gooey coat (or three) of whatever your favorite glossy clear coating is (shellac, varnish, polyurethane), and the cracks won't be as evident. I've heard this works, but I've never tried it. Still, it might be just the ticket to keep you from scrapping the veneer finish entirely. IMO, the black paint wouldn't match your room and furnishings as nicely.

                      Re: Statement monitors towers.

So I finally started re-finishing them.
                      This is the old pic:

This is where I am at the moment:

One has the old veneer removed, added new paper backed mahogany, applied water based poly and the roundovers were changed for chamfers. The other I have removed the veneer in the top and started one side.

Drivers on 1 and the other is fully naked now. Removed all the veneer and sanded to 400. I still need to fill and sand some more before veneering again.

Thanks! Both sides veneered and started the chamfers.
