Two Daughters... Two Sapphos

I've been working on these speakers for a couple of months now. They are finally done and sound great. My oldest daughter helped come up with the name SAPPHOS. (hopefully no one else already used this name, but that would be JUST my luck.)

Here are a few shots of the SAPPHOS. The first pair was veneered in Black Walnut. The second was veneered in oak with a light stain.

My plans are to add a subwoofer to handle the bass. I know... I know... I'm going to give subwoofers to teenagers????

As for the Sapphos, those inexpensive 4" Peerless woofers are nicer than I thought they would be. Very pleasant sound for little $$$.

I imported the WT3 (.zma) and Omnimic (.frd) into Jeff's PCD. After some playing around................


I ended up with the Low Pass filter being 3rd order, plus a zobel
1.20mH
0.35mH
16uF
Zobel - 20ohm /16uF


The High Pass filter was also 3rd order (positive polarity):
5.6uF
25uF
0.26mH
(No padding resistors needed.)

I asked my daughter how she came up with the name Sapphos for these speakers...

She said that she Googled 'Ancient Greek Names', and then just picked one that looked neat.

Neither of us did our homework on this one. Maybe from now on I'll go with something safe, like ZX-5 or SL-7.

Sapphos... it's kind of funny actually. Seriously, what are the friggin odds? How does that old expression go? "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all."
