  • Large Klipsch Heresy build started.

Just started the build last week. I lucked into 1.25" birch plywood at estate sale so I am using it for top/bottom/sides. Using 3/4" mdf glued/stapled to 3/8" baltic birch ply for front and 3/4" mdf for back. I will veneer top/bot/sides and front with cherry veneer and use solid wood on all corners and front frame. This sucker is heavy already with no speakers! 42" tall, 15.5" wide and 14.5" deep.

I'll use the K-22EP 12" woofer, PE 8 x 12.5" mid horn with K-61 compression driver, K-79k Klipsch tweeter and stock Klipsch Heresy/Tangent xover.

Looks to me like they're going to be Tangent 400s on steroids.

Are you going to vent them?

ID:	1143800Thanks guys. Yes, this will be similar to the Tangent. In fact, I boughts some NOS Tangent xovers (same as Heresy) and plan to use those. I will vent the speaker. Looks like it will get down to about 41 f3. These suckers are so heavy I may need a forklift to move them. Here's a pick with cherry veneer on one without the solid cherry front and top trim.

I have a stick of cocobolo I might use on the 1/2" top corner trim to dress it up a bit. Click image for larger version

Update. Got the cabinets built and veneered in cherry with solid cherry corners and all holes cut and recessed. Had a flush trim router bit catch and gouge the front top trim and I can't fix it so I'll have to built a cap to go on top. Probably will add a base to make it look like furniture. 42.5" tall x 16 x 16. Heavy!!! It has been raining here all weekend and the cherry veneer really absorbs moisture.

More later.Click image for larger version

Update. Got 3 coats of wipe on poly satin on these puppies so won't be long before they're ready. Built grill frames then one broke when my golf bag fell on it!!! My luck. 45" tall including built in riser and top cap.

                    Re: xyristx

Thanks. Pic on Sept 25 with 5 coats of wipe on poly.

I had grill frame cut out and bumped into my golf back which of course fell on the grill frame and snapped it!! The workshop devil strikes again!!!!

Thanks. Here's a pic in my friends dart room. Man they sound great. The mid/high are clear and accurate. The bass is smooth and loud. Glad I put all the time in on these puppies.
