    Re: RSS390HO End Table

Its been a while since I posted an update.
I purchased the Bash 500 when it went on sale for $229. It’s much more power in the low end that the amp I was running before.
During movies this table rocks hard and when watching movies like U571 plays low like I had originally envisioned.
Although it was not designed for music I is a little disappointed on how it handles during listening (except Dub-step ). I did design this thing for movies 90 music 10.
I have some pictures of how I mounted the plate amp in my audio cabinet and I'll post those later.
The planning process has begun for a second smaller table on the opposite side of the room, but its not on the priority list right now.

Very nice build! No one would ever know there's a bass monster hiding in there. :D

I feel your pain though on the music end of things. I used the RSS390HF for my end table, and even though I knew full well I designed it as an LFE sub, I still wish it had a little more kick for music. Like yours, mine does great for music with the really low stuff. My mains handle the higher bass stuff pretty well, but I'm still thinking about building another sub to fill in the music need. Thinking maybe a Stereo Integrity 18 for the LFE, and run the 390HF sealed. Hey... two end tables are always better than one!

        Re: RSS390HO End Table

I posted a thread either here or over at HTF several months (a year?) ago about the lack of "kick" with my 390HF. Like you guys have said, it really jams with movies and some music (the newer stuff with lots of lower bass) but my old favorites - think classic rock - left a lot to be desired. I assumed it was the sub lacking punch, but through the discussion we really came up with what we thought was the issue...there just isn't that much "kick" in the music itself. It was either the way it was recorded or it just wasn't there. I still felt like adding a smaller, "tighter" sub to go along with it would help. I have noticed that some older stuff does kick pretty good, but most of it is lacking. YMMV. Besides, you can never have enough!

          Re: RSS390HO End Table

What is the consensus about having two different types of subs running at one time? Sealed and ported. I had posted the question over on HTS and it was generally thought to be a bad idea. Don’t know if anyone here is running something like that.
My 390HF kind of pops with most music. Like I said I did design this for HT use and did not really have music in mind when it was built but on the occasion that either my wife of myself listen to music I would like it to sound somewhat respectable.

Looks great. I was thinking about doing something like this myself.

When properly placed, two subs will always outperform one with less modes and nulls.....three is where things get really smooth and four is perfection.

Using the same design of sub tuned to the same frequency or can I mix ported and sealed? Either way Im going to do a second sub but wanted to get some ideas before I start up the table saw....

Well, after a year of use thing this is still rock solid. I've used it pretty hard and everything has held up. I'm still thinking about building a second but still not convinced I need it....or maybe that's my wife in my ear telling me no way.
