I just completed this project a few days ago (sorry for not posting a build thread). This project is for my mom for her office computer. I have been obtaining all of the components needed for this build for a few years now it seems, and just decided to build everything. The PC speakers are a bit modified from Ben's original dimensions, purely for aesthetic reasons. They maintain very closely to his spec'd volume, and have a removable baffle that is made from solid pine. I remember seeing a few builds of people mounting the dayton ND series on the back of the baffle to hide the frame, so I stole that idea and did it with the ns3's. The opening has a round over on it, and all edges were chamfered. I contemplated doing round overs, but I had a picture in my head of how I wanted the subwoofer to look so I stuck with the 45's. The paint is just a basic gloss latex with a clear coat. It's much easier to build then it is to finish for sure!! They are being powered by a Lepai 2020A.
The triska subwoofer was built to the dimensions that Shawn had spec'd. I did add a vertical brace to connect the top and bottom panels, but that was it for bracing. I did use the sa70 for power, and it is more then enough. I picked up the SD215 when PE closed out the shielded versions for a good price. It, the PR's, and the sa70 are surface mounted. I had also bought three grills to protect the goods but they ended up not fitting
so I will have to think of something else. Personally, I am not a fan of speaker grills but the subwoofer will reside in a place that my niece is active in and do not want them to get damaged. It has the same white paint, with chamfers running vertical on the four corners. I cut a bottom and top piece made out of pine that extends all edges by about 1", and each corner is 45 cut to match the box. I think it turned out pretty good, and they are just attached using brad nails. All the pine wood was finished with danish oil.
