    I understand what you're saying and makes perfect sense. The woofs are pretty cheap so for the sake of learning I might experiment a bit with them even if it means they will be damaged. Will try adding a few inches to the existing port and see(hear) what happens..

      Exactly...cool. I think you might be able to use a toilet paper or paper towel roll to lengthen that port in your experiments.

      Lengths:

      32Hz = 3 1/3"
      30Hz = 4"
      28Hz = 4.75"
      25Hz = 6.25"

        The plate amp isn't going to work out because the enclosure isn't big enough to fit it comfortably. Going to be to tight. So I looked around for awhile and found this nice little puppy at Ebay for just $103.00 shipped. Its in near mint condition, has level control and low pass xover for sub duty. Tested it full range and sounds real good!

        Havent been able to finish the project because of some health issues(mild heart attack),,but I'm feeling better so I'll be working on it soon!

          Mild heart attack?? OMG - take care of yourself. No such thing as a mild heart attack in my book. Health first, speakers second (a close second). ;)

                Nice, that is one seriously glossy finish! I take it the driver is down-firing?

                    Thanks! I didn't even notice there was a page one, whoops! I like the repurposed design too.

                      That looks kick a$$. Is that a gloss spar varnish over stain? What exactly did you do there??

                        Its just stain(Varathane),,but at the time of the pic it wasnt completly dry,,so dont know if it'll stay like that. Right now(about 18 hours later) it is still quite glossy.

                          Very nice work on the table! I'm very curious how about your end result, and listening impressions after living with it a little while.

                          I'm seriously considering (lovingly) ripping off this concept. I have a pair of big nasty 4-way KLH monkey coffins, built long after the company's quality years. They sound so-so as they are, but I'm thinking the 15" woofers might work as subs. And I need a coffee table! Win-Win!
                          Nonsense. You're only saying that because no one ever has.
