ty, since you determined the postitive post on the tweeter with your omni could you tell me if the positive is the narrow or wide terminal. there is a green line on the wide terminal, am I correct this means its the negative post?

I believe it was the small terminal = positive. Unfortunately, I can't check right now. I get a new shipment of XT25's in sometime today or Monday, so I can try and measure it again.

I got my new set of XT25SC90-04 tweets in. Unfortunately, I can't give you a definitive answer. Using the "AAA" battery test, the LARGE terminal presents itself as the positive terminal. However, due to my crossover design, you may want the tweeters in reverse. I apologize - I should have paid better attention to this.
Here's how to determine it, assuming you have some method to measure SPL (a computer, smartphone, radioshack SPL meter, anything). Simply hook up the speakers and generate a sine wave centered at the crossover frequency (2500Hz). Keep the volume relatively low so you don't blow your eardrums. Without moving the speaker, SPL meter, or any of the volume controls - swap the polarity of the tweeter and re-measure.
The setting with the loudest SPL will be the proper polarity for the speakers.
Do you have a way to measure the SPL? There's several free SPL meters available for smart phones that can be used. Also, on a PC, you can record the playback using "Audacity" and analyze the file to determine the relative SPL.

hope you don't mind me posting this here if you want this deleted I will.
I did the 2500 hz test and battery test to determine correct wiring to the tweeter. The battery test indicated the large terminal as positive. The 2500 hz test indicates the + of the xo goes to the + on the tweeter (large terminal). Hope this helps anyone who plans to build them.
I'll give my impressions of the speakers once I totally finish them in a new thread.

Thanks for posting the results. I figured that's what it was, but I haven't been able to completely confirm. I've been in progress of building an 8-ohm version of these for some time, but life gets in the way ;).

Tyger,why did you have to check the polarity on the tweeter?Is there not an indastry standard ditermaning wich side of the voice coil goes to positive?I'd like to build a pair of these they seem like a good low cost build.

Sorry for the late response - Christmas stuff has been keeping me busy.
If the tweeter has the polarity reversed (wires swapped coming out of the crossover), then you will experience a severe dip in the frequency response around the crossover frequency. In this design, that's around 2500Hz. So, in order to get the desired frequency response, you want to make sure that the polarity is correct.
When I posted the schematic for the crossover, I forgot to note that the crossover should be connected to the positive terminal of both the tweeter and the woofer. So, simply make sure to connect the crossover's output to the positive terminals of the correct speakers, and all will be good. For the Vifa tweet - the positive terminal is the large terminal.
Some speaker designs require the crossover output to be connected to the tweet's negative output (reverse polarity), but that's not the case in this design.

OK Tyger I was a little confused,I thought you were trying to figure out wich terminal was pos.I guess I was reading it wrong.There are two builds I was thinking about arias or hitmakers.Havent dicided yet,wich is the lowest cost will probably win out.thanks for the reply.

Tyger, I was wondering what an 8 ohm version needs. I know this time of year you're swamped, but an 8 ohm version is what I need. Please keep us informed on your progress. I'm VERY curious how the new RS-150P might work in your design.

With the Erse 0.22uF Pulse-X 630V cap being on backorder from Erse, am I ok to drop to a 250 or 400V? I assume 630 was chosen because the Pulse-X aren't available in .22 below 630 V.

Sorry for the late reply - I was on vacation.
The main thing for that capacitor is the uF value. Anything above about 100V should do nicely, prefer 250V. Don't change the value more than 10% though - so stay between 0.20uF and 0.24uF.
