These are also available @ 19.99 and free shipping use stock or with a little modding you could have a 2 cube box for a single woofer. I just ordered one of the single ported I will mod it for a smaller woofer and lower the tuning a little.

3.5Hz is a big difference in tuning frequency? ;-) Heck, I would consider that spot on for an enclosure at 10x the price.

The 3.5 doesn't seen like much and really isn't in a car, but add it to the smaller enclosure volume and an already bonny box gets even worse IME

If I replace the baffle, can I get a 12" in there? I am thinking these would be great for portable guitar speakers.

Is that slot port dado'd into the side panels? The more I read this and JR's write-up the more I think I should stock up on a few for future auto sub work. This would save so much labor and the people we deal with for the auto stereo work usually don't even know what a brace is. Still, I'd like to shore up the cab and lengthen the slot port a bit. Doable??

Bryan, there is only one buttjoint in the whole thing, and all it is all dadoed. The rest of the joints are mitered. It will be relative easy to tune it lower, and re-work it for a smaller driver if so desired.
