  • My Twist on the Silver AL "UE"

Here are my Silver ALs "UE" speakers.
I went with the volume and tuning alignments from Zaph.
I used .9cuft tuned to 33hz and this thing really sings.

My wife even likes them because they look like "Wood Art"
I think it really has to do with the matching stands.

I hand rubbed a gunstock oil finish, 3 coats worked well with 000 steel wool between coats after drying time.

Sweet! I'm on record saying the book is closed on this design but I love seeing what others do to put their own spin on 'em. The 175 punches above its weight class for sure. The extra cabinet volume and tuning you used only helps things. Glad you're enjoying one of the most fun designs I've ginned up.

Shawn, do you know what an approximate sensitivity rating for these is?
I'm pushing them on a 25W Class A amp and they are really superb.
                Thanks,

They are pretty darn insensitive. I know the first version was around 81 dB but where the UE ended up I don't recall. The really weird thing about them is that they sound "okay" at lower levels and then as you crank on 'em there is a threshold that once crossed they really open up. They are what I call dorm rockers or housecleaning helpers. I took one pair up to 102 dB running some Rob Zombie before the ugly started to happen. Again, fun speakers that don't cost too much at all.

I have noticed that myself, they sound nice but "closed" somehow when below 2 watts.
This works well because they are VERY easy to listen to.
But with my box they run out of poop about 50W RMS.
