I sure hope that is what you end up doing - nothing like a oil finish on walnut (anything else in my opinion takes away from the beauty of the wood). No shine. No sheen :-)

The baffles are glued and the whole works are in clamps for the night. I drilled 1 7/8" holes in rear panels for terminal cups and marked the 4 holes each for the screws to hold them in place. That's it until later on this evening.

Are you going to do the front baffles the same way as the back?

The front baffles will front mount and will be rounded over. I may do grilles as well.....?

The walnut costs around $5 per board foot here. Not outrageous, but they ain't exactly giving it away.

The rest.....the"details", well......that only costs time!

That flush mount rear panel was so easy to do I doubt. I'll ever do anything else in the future. Easy as pie!

I DID finish with a clear Danish oil. They look insanely rich. I'll probably give it a few days and then use a walnut colored Briwax on them.

The end of my PC speaker build is in sight!!! I have a few more holes to drill and then assemble them. The most of the woodwork is completed now.

I started the morning out with a flush trim bit to trim the baffles to match the box sides.


Then I used a roundover bit to round the edges on the baffle and back edge of the cabinet.



I had already sanded the parts at 80 grit. I sanded today with 120, then, 220, and finally 320 grit before applying the danish oil. In the next two pics the surfaces are flooded and soaking up the oil.





After wiping the parts down with a lint free paper towel I hung them to cure.




Im hoping I can just about wrap these up tomorrow....although...I want to put furniture wax on them in a few days.

Today I was able to wrap up the PC speakers. I even got to enjoy the first pair for awhile as I finished up the second pair. I have moved one pair to my bedroom to get a little use out of them before I gift them.;)


A few photos???

I used weatherstripping tape as the seal for the rear panel. I had left myself 1/16" room for the gasket.


The terminal cups had a gasket attatched to them.


I attempted to use velcro to hold the cap in place, but it was too big!....I ended up hot glueing to the bottom of the enclosure.
