  • Overnight Sensation Boom Box

Had the urge to build a boom box and I used the overnight sensations as the speaker set and put it all in one enclosure with the Lepai amp and a Part-Express MP3 module. Unit has a Power Sonic 7ah battery or can use a plug in with a 5amp power supply. Covered it with Rust-Oleum truck bed liner. I put a switched volt meter on top so I could monitor the voltage. Overall I am real happy with it, sounds great and can really go louder than your ears can handle.

That is a really cool boom box and with the OSs as it's foundation, has to sound as good as it looks.

Build quality there is excellent. Looks like you might have had some previous experience with guitar cabs or the like.

That is great. Really like the angled controls.
Do you have any internal build pictures of how you mounted things?

Thanks for all the compliments. It weigh's 25.5 lbs! It's late and I won't have time to write or post anymore pics for a few days, I work 12hr shifts and commute 74mile round trip but on my day off I will post some more pics of the internal build. This is only my third build. I first did a boombox with some co-axial speakers but it also had bluetooth. My second project was Paul's Overnight Sensation MTM's (I retired my Orb speakers cause Paul's sounded better), then this project. I really have the bug. My wife hates it though, cause I spend too much time in the workshop!

Very sweet. How does that USB/card reader work? I bought a couple of those and have yet to use them.

How many layers of primer, sanding, liner, sanding, etc. did you do? Did you use the spray liner or roll on? This looks just like the finish I am looking for with the set I'm getting ready to build.
I wonder how many people I've looked at all my life and never seen.

I was think on using this overnight sensation outside. Do you think it would work for 50 feet distance?

VERY well done, I've built 2 boom boxes and they haven't turned out that nice! Do you have a pic of the Lepai amp cutout? I used 1 in one build and I had trouble getting it right and had to angle the bottom 2 screws down at about 30* to have enough material to bite into without splitting.

I think I used a couple of layers of primer and and two coats of truck liner. The truck liner covers really well. I used the rattle can. Was the easiest finish I have done yet.

Sorry I don't have any pictures, I didn't save any, I just cut out the opening for the amp so it fit very tight, then attached a piece of wood to the bottom of the amp to make a small platform, then **** glued it to the inside of the face piece.
