Klipsch RF7 project.

A friend hired me to build him a pair of RF7's. I had the tweeter drivers and horns and he ordered four of the K-1089AV woofers (at $160each!!). I liked gdmoore's thread on the curved sided speakers he builtso I used that method. The last project had a 45 degree angle and matching veneer at that joint was slow process.

Pics show the frames which went together quickly once the 5 braces for each cabinet were cut and flush routed using a template. I'll use 3/8" bendable plywood (2 layers) on these with extra thickness inside between bracing. May use some tool drawer mesh between layers. Finally cherry veneer on sides and front with solid cherry front trim and solid cherry top flush trimmed to sides.

Got the front baffles on with cherry veneer and holes cut. Now to veneer the sides and apply the solid cherry top.

Thanks guys. Made a little progress yesterday. Got the curved sides veneered on one speaker. One more side left and then solid cherry edge trim and solid cherry top installs next. Can't wait to hear them.

Thanks Buster, appreciate the compliment. I kinda make these things up and my head, commit to the project, then try to figure out how the heck to build them!. Shoot the aim kinda deal.

I'll post some more pics after weekend when I hope to get the four sided frame on the front to hold the grill frame flush with front and then the solid cherry top.

Slowly getting there. Between tornados tearing up Arkansas and rain it has been slow go.

Got solid cherry top glued and screwed on and front cherry trim done on one speaker. Still have to flush trim and sand and it's ready for some wipe on poly.

Thanks Andy. It's taken a while on this project with bad weather in the area (tornadoes) and other distractions. Finally got one coat of poly on one yesterday. 5 or 6 more coats to go.

My friend has the store bought Klipsch speakers like these, super sounding speakers too! He drives his with a 140 watt/ch Onkyo receiver and they are most impressive! These are "Rest of your life" speakers! You'll never get tired of them, but you may get the itch to build a new project! Congrats, great project, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Russell. I haven't heard the RF7's but my friend wanted a clone set. The woofers tested out very close on specs. I had the horns and tweeter drivers and am building the Klipsch stock crossover with a few mods.

I got the 6th coat of Minwax wipe on poly put on this morning. Build some grills, finish xover and paint the back/bottom and I'm done. I've already got another friend wanting a smaller version (31" tall) and CC to match. I like the curved sides. Hard to get it to stand up on the back but looks great.
