So I hesitate to even post these on here with all the great wood workers/builders and more elaborate projects... long time lurker and first time project poster. I had a pair of Dayton 8" classics sitting around for literally the past 10+ years. They'd made it through 2 separate house moves. Decided I better do something with them before it was too late.
Started with the Noah's 8's project, then did the original tweak of the crossover from Chris Roemer (though he recommends a further tweak beyond what I went with -- I went for the parts that were in stock at the time which matched his drawn up XO).
For the tweeters, I switched to the shielded versions because they were on sale and I knew if I wasn't happy with these, I had a project in mind that would use the shielded version.
I had some 2" vents already (again, been sitting for 10+ years) so I just cut those down to the appropriate size after recomputing the values... I know they're a little small but for my normal use(s) I don't expect (and haven't had) chuffing. I moved the port location down to about the 1/3 area of the cabinet as well.
I kept the cabinet volume the same, but changed the dimensions slightly to end up at 36" tall since I'll eventually be building a tall TV stand that same height so these will match that.
Used 3/4" MDF throughout... most likely inadequate bracing as I only have 1 window-ish brace. Then, I wrapped the top and 2 sides with the "paint grade" pine from Lowe's. I like it because it's rough and knotty and hides my mistakes well along with any bumps and bruises they'll receive over the years. Finished them with Ipswich Pine stain and 3 coats of poly. The black face and back were black primer then 2 or 3 coats of the Rustoleum Textured Black.
This was my first project to use my new router and circle cutting jig stuff.
