1st Boombox Project - The Madeleine

My take on the Madeleine, in fact this is my first woodworking project ever. This is red oak, stained with Jacobean and finished with wipe-on poly. Completely blown away by the sound, thanks, Gordy, for a great tutorial and the inspiration!

Looks pretty darn good for a first time project! They do have awesome sound. I'm curious, did you use the same amp as Gordy, or a different one?

Thanks Jeff! I actually used the Wondom AA-AC11161, nice amp, it's got integrated BT4.0 and comes with all the wiring, LEDs (which I have yet to install ) etc.

Really nice. I like the contrast of the driver surrounds and the metal cones with the light and dark grain of the stained oak.

Thanks Mike, this is exactly the effect I was trying to achieve.
I am starting the TriTrix build this week, but I am going to use baltic birch ply, staining it is going to be a real challenge

I used a Lepai 2020A+ in the one I built. I also used the same Wondom Bluetooth amp that you used in my Choti Boombox build. The Wondom amp sounds good and the Bluetooth works well too. I really like that amp, my only complaint with it is that I wish it put out a little bit more volume.

Can I ask why you didn't use the all in one Dayton bluetooth amp board?

If you were asking me, I'd say the same as Gordy. I built it in 2015, the Dayton Bluetooth board didn't exist. I did use the Sure version of the amp in a Choti boombox I built last year.

It's been a year since I posted on this thread because life got stupid crazy, but everything is settling down and I started on my Madeleine's again about 3 weeks ago. I started a build thread here- http://techtalk.parts-express.com/fo...ong-long-build. I should be done in a couple of days just in time for Christmas. Here is a teaser if anybody wants to check it out. These are just in sanding sealer, I think they should look pretty good once finished.

I do have a question for Gordy or anybody else that might know. I forgot to route the inside of the driver openings before I glued up the boxes. I have a plan to use a burr or sanding drum on a die grinder to taper the inside edge but, here's my question.... what if I don't? I'm new to speaker building and I assume this is to let the air move in and out of the cone area easier. Any help is appreciated.

How thick is your baffle? It would be a good idea to try and taper it some if its 3/4" material. Paul says 1/2" needs no taper, but recommends it for 3/4"

Thanks Jeff, They are 3/4" and I did taper them a little and I'll do more on future builds. They sound awesome regardless.

Excellent! A roundover bit or my preference, a 45° chamfer bit does a nice job.

Hello,

Just came across this site recently, I am looking into building something very similar to the Madeleine for each of my college age kids for Christmas, but I am on a budget. I just have a couple of quick questions:
1. Since I am on a budget I was wondering if there is anyway to make the crossover cheaper, but still do a decent job? I looked at the crossovers of the Quark and they appear to be much simpler, and cheaper.
2. I would be using either the Dayton 2x15 with bluetooth 2.1, or the 2x30 with bluetooth 4.0. What are the real world differences between these 2 cards? Does the aptX make that big of a difference?
