    Gordy,

Absolutely love the design. Been studying it for quite some time - thanks for the detailed instructions and plans! Please keep up the great posts - I am following all 3 projects with great interest. The final product here is amazing. I am starting a portable bluetooth project, but this one might have to be my next.

Thank you for the kind words. If you have any questions just let me know. My Dad rocks his boom box every day and loves it.

      regards,

10/10 would buy. I like this one even more than the previous one, which I liked a lot Photo quality and the boombox are both very professional.

They look wonderful! I do worry about the joint between the top and sides where the grain runs in different directions. Especially as the top is so wide. Do you think expansion/contraction will cause a problem there?

There will always be expansion and contraction with hardwood. As of right now all the joints are smooth and solid. I knew that there would be some possibility of movement when I built it but that is OK. If it lasts 5 years I will be satisfied. I would think it would last longer.

Both of those builds are beautiful. The impeccable attention to detail is amazing and even on the interior. FWIW in guitar construction mahogany is used on Gibson SG and Les Paul guitars and imparts a warm sound with a lot of sustain and oak is normally not used. Have you noticed any tonal differences between the two builds? The construction is so solid that it probably doesn't matter.

You and Cajun Jeff with the minions / voxels have raised the bar and the mahogany is just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing all of the details and the great pictures.

Gordy, your build log has been an inspiration. When I first saw the mahogany version, I immediately thought, that's what I want to build. Since then I've realized my woodworking limitations and decided to get the OS kits with pre-cut boxes. I'd like to build a third box to house the amp and Bluetooth module. I'm thinking of using the same 15w sure amp that you used in the second build. Has it ever left you wanting more power? I don't really like super loud music, and my house mostly has small rooms, so it seems like it would be fine.

The box can get loud and has never had me wanting more power. It is more than adequate for small rooms and even filling most of my 2500sqft house at full volume. The BT module has a line driver so the volume has a lot of head room. You could add a Sure volume control (the cheaper one) and that would allow finite adjustment as well as give you a mute option as well.

It does not have a screw terminal connections for 12v and ground. I had those already on order from PE and received them today. I soldered one on to the BT board and the amp board as well. It allows power to be daisy chained and reduces the power connections from the source and cleans things up.
Hey Gordy, love the build think the Madeleine would be great for my kids. Quick question can you provide the PE part number for the screw terminal connectors, I can't seem to find them.

                            Thanks,

                            John

Not sure if PE has them. Got mine form McMaster Carr. http://www.mcmaster.com/#terminal-blocks/=whp2os

Thanks Dewmiester, but I was referring to the black pcb mounted screw terminal connectors. You can see Gordy has added one to the BT pcb and the amp pcb in the last picture in post #61. The first picture in that post shows the BT module without the screw terminal connector.
