Latest project started last Wednesday. Making a 31" tall small side speakers for a friend to match the cc I just finished for him. Two 6.5"woofers and horn tweeter with EV driver will be components. Quartered figured etimoe vener with solid bubinga top and trim. Hope to have these wrapped in in 10 days. He will move these to his reard setup when he moves to new house. Pics shows internal bracing.

    Re: Curved side speakers

More pics showing progress. I used 3/8" bendable plywood for the sides with rubber drawer liner in between with lots of Titebond glue between plys. PL premium was used between first ply and frame. Lots of staples and nails and the cabinet is very solid. First pic is the liner with glue spread ready for second ply layer. Second pic is with all front board with veneer attached and recesses cut. More pics in next post.

          Nice so far.

            Interesting. Why the drawer liner?

              Thanks guys.

I think the drawer liner deadens the cabinet resonance to some extent. It isn't very thick it holds the thicker layer of glue in place. It's cheap ($1 at Dollar Tree)!

Gluing up solid bubinga for top. Pic shows the bottom side of the top gluing. I'll attach it to the top after cutting out the curve profile then flush trim and roundover. Bubinga is $17 a board foot so I don't waste it!

Update on progress. Got the cabinets finished and rounded over. Will start finishing tonight. The solid bubinga is tough to route without chipping so I had to go slow.

Finally finished and delivered to customer. These babies sound good with two 6.5" Gefco woofers, Klipsch tractrix horn and EV DH3 comp driver.

                          Looking good, Ken.

It looks for all the world to be solid wood, I guess thanks to the way you handled the front baffle.

                          Nice!

                            Re: Curved side speakers

Thanks Tom. I think the solid top with the rounded over curve really exposes the bubinga grain. I learned a lot building my second pair of curved side speakers.

Ken , your output is simply staggering. Your work ethic is a lot better than mine!

You could do us all a great favor and walk us thru your next veneer project with step by step pics. My winter's project is going to require a good amount of veneering, and I've love to see just how YOU do it.
