  • My first DIY project - Speedster speaker

    Hello!

So after a long time of saving money and few days of hard work I have finished my first build ever - the Speedsters. The cabinets are made from 18mm pine planks. Sorry for poor quality of the photos

Here's a few photos for you:

    - those books I got at the end of every school year proved themselves usefull

    - I decided that instead of buying extremely expensive stands I'll make my own. Base is 30x30cm and legs are 10x70cm glued together in the shape of letter H:

    - I wanted to have the possibility to change something inside, so I made the back wall removable:

Now some advice for all of you who want to begin your journey with diy - if you are thinking about using wood and paint for your first project - DON'T. It is extremely hard (at least for me was) to paint it with oil paint. It came out very uneven and there is a lot of adjustments to be done yet, but I just couldn't wait any longer and wanted to finish the project, so I went on.

    - some pictures of crossovers - all done with Jantzen parts:

I guess that reversed polarity for NeoCD1.0 thing is no longer an issue. I soldered + to + and - to - and it works perfectly fine.

Now for the listening impressions - WOW. In the last picture you can see my HT speakers - Speedsters keep up with them in terms of the amount of bass. And of course are way better in any other aspect. I'm running them with Denon PMA-100M amp (60W).
My first impression was - never have I heard any speakers to produce that great sound stage (I don't have much experience with various speakers, but still I was shocked). I love it. They are very clear and powerfull. I would never suspect that speaker that is so small could sound that big. I am super happy with them. To those of you who already have them: try them with Katy B's Perfect Stranger or Eminem's Above The Law. Just amazing. They work with every kind of music I tested them with. Simply amazing. Lindsey Stirling's Beyond The Veil just blows my mind!

Thank you Paul for sharing such great project and to all of you who shared your build threads - I wouldn't have done it without you. Cheers!

Nice build. I recently finished my speedsters as well and have been using them as computer speakers. I really enjoy them but I'm already thinking I need to build something bigger...

        Thanks!

I use them as my main stereo. For my room size they are perfect. If you need something bigger maybe try Speedster TMM - I'm shure they sound even better
