If you're looking for 2-channel, don't over look the used market. The older Hafler DH-200, DH-220 and 280's are excellent. Adcom, B&K and many of the other older audiophile quality amps can be bought for little money and have lots of "real" power with great sound quality.

I have been trying to snag Adcom on Ebay, but the prices are a bit too for what I think they are worth.
    I will keep looking.

Watch Craig's List and check out Audiogon. Deals vary. Ebay would be my last choice but I've been burned enough times I rarely buy anything there. I like the older Haflers a lot. They're a mosfet based design that is simple but has great sound quality with the option of modding them if you wish. They're very flexible. I ran a fully modded XL-280 for years until I decided I wanted to have a single amp rather than three. That's when I bought my Emotiva. It's excellent too. All will make your Monitors sing!

      Good luck!

I found a Yamaha M-80 on Craigslist about a mile from my house. It would have been expensive to ship.

I have a pair of Statement Monitors in the works. ....actually at a standstill..(financially challenged,,I am).....I have a question for you...How does the Duratex finish clean up, does it maintain its black well. I've considered truck bed liner, and rubberized undercoating for certain projects, but neither impress me for maintenance. Your thoughts would be appreciated

I haven't exposed any Duratex to direct sunlight, but I've got three year old cabs w/ Duratex that still look new. Cleans up fine w/ a damp cloth. Very hard surface once cured. Not a rubberized finish.

I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

              Fastbike1 ...
Thanks for the info on the Duratex finish, The words "very hard surface" is certainly a selling point. Iwill have to find something to give it a try on...Allready have some Tamo-Ash veneer for the Statement Monitors, of course my best laid plans and intentions are often subject to change.

                Re: My Black Statement Monitors

I used Duratex on a pair of TriTrix 2-ways I made for a friend. It turned out great. Easy to use and apply with the roller in the "kit", and no smell. Until it cures, it cleans up with soap & water. Much easier than any bed liner I've used...and I've used a lot of Duplicolor spray-on bed liner. He was very happy with the Duratex finish. Not one of the undercoating brands/methods I've used ever turned out good enough for me to keep using it. Duratex is cheaper than bed liner and it covers well too. I did 7 coats on the TriTrix .25 ft3 2-ways, and I still had some left over from the "2-way bookshelf speaker" kit. Depending on the roller used, you can control the amount of texture also.

                  Re: My Black Statement Monitors

I have an Emotiva UPA-2 and the USP-1 driving my pair of Statement Monitors and it's a super pairing of speakers and amplification. For the price-to-performance ratio, it's stellar with the Monitors. It's sad that currently, Emotiva does not offer a similar pre-amp like the USP-1, in that price range. They are supposed to be coming out with a new 2-channel pre-amp sometime soon. Even hooked up to my 1977 Yamaha CR-420 receiver, the Monitors still impress, and the CR-420 is only rated at 25W/channel. Great choice on your build, looks great too! Are those stands I see at the bottom, or did you incorporate those into the cabinets? Nice idea. One of the guys built the Monitors as a floor-standing design which turned out excellent also...wish I'd thought of that!

I purchased an Adcom amp last week. It gives it a nice bump.
The monitors don't like most MP3's I have discovered.
I built the stands myself to get them up to a good listening height. Thanks for noticing.

I used some stands for mine also, but they were ones that I bought for something else. They worked well though, but I had plans to build my own with 4" round center posts. My speaker-building abilities, physically, went downhill faster that I had thought, so I had to use the already-bought stands. I like what you did with yours and they look like they add stability to the speakers. And a big YES about the MP3 files. One of my younger relatives wanted to hear his ipod, so I hooked it into my set-up. It was pretty funny to see the look on his face when he didn't hear it through his little ear buds, but instead through some great speakers. Now he wants some speakers for his room! I'll have to go with one of the flat-pack ones.

The Adcoms are great amps. They used to come in for service occasionally and our tech would always comment on the excellent build quality. One of my co-workers had Adcoms and I enjoyed going to his home. He had a Speakerlab S50 pair and it was almost a religious experience listening to that combo. Things like that you don't easily forget, and I remember it well. Besides, I got into the habit of taking notes when I started working at the audio store in the early 80s. The owner taught me how to do it properly (because the aural memory is fairly short regarding the details), so I'd take them at the store, when I was evaluating gear in my own home, even lately when I went shopping for some new gear at a couple of the local Seattle-area audio emporiums. Fortunately, I have kept all my notes from my tenure at The Stereo Shoppe and any others I've taken. It makes for a good reference, especially currently, when I want to see how any particular piece or combo compared to something else or how it stood on its own merits, good or not.
