Project finished I received my pvc baffles and installed components.
Sound so far is ok not as blown away as when I build the dynamics. But I know I do not have then in an ideal placement and drivers need to break in. I did put some foam under them to decouple them.
Also know these are studio flat monitors. I did spend about an hour doing some mixes and playing pretty loud. They do not distort at all. And my ears weren't buzzing afterwards.
Also was playing remixed tunes so probably not the best quality audio I will have to do more testing.
So all is good just not sure it was worth the $700 cdn investment, and supposed to be worth much more. I have heard some yamaha's HS80M's with built in amp for about the same price and they sounded very good. But did not do an A B test to compare.
So Jeff thank-you for your contribution I did have a good time making them.
If that chair is any indication of actual listening position then that is way too close. The person who requested the original Denhams from Jeff had a proper studio space IIRC. They did not use them as nearfield desktop monitors.

That's correct they are on stands several feet from the console, away from walls, and playing into a pretty large room. There is also a subwoofer in the room.
Regarding the port - I built my speakers from the Parts Express 721 kit, but I didn't care for the crossover design that came with the kit, so I rolled my own. The port that came with the kit was a 2" port, so I think that's how it ended up in this kit too. However, we have never noticed any chuffing from the speaker.
I hope they work out for you, but I do think you are too close to be able to experience the summation and tonal balanced that they were designed for. In this placement and distance I think something like the Continuum would be a better choice, but it wouldn't be quite as extended.
I was suggested the Denham,s and went with those. too late now but don't regret it
I just installed a crossover and a subwoofer therefore will be limiting the low end bass on the speakers in this case would it matter as much if I put them closer to the wall?
Is putiing them too close to wall effect more the bass or also the mids?
ok I don't get it. I have been listening to music for the last few days and the speakers totally changed. I know they need time to break in a little but this much??
They are so much more natural, clear and fills the room with a feeling like hard to explain although I am close to them it feels the room is filled with sound they feel far away and complete. The sound seems far not like in your face as before and distorted in the mids and highs.
Jeff I know you read my posts since you answered one of them, did you break in my house and tweak a few things?
As much as I said before that I felt it doesn't feel the investment was worth it, now I feel cheap it only cost me this much.
wow
Thanks for sharing your build - I have been considering this kit for some time, but like you would be sitting very close to them so might not be ideal.
do they seem to be summing/integrating well at close range like that?

Actually I tried moving my chair at about 10 feet away just to listen to them and although there is a difference it is not that much better. Probably because I have them close to wall also.
Like I said in previous post they have completly changed after using for a while now even if sitting close I get the full range it is like they are 20 feet away.
If you do build them don't do like I did and give them a little time. I am very happy with them. I did put in a subwoofer and have a crossover.
similar experience here with other builds....i'll back up and it's "different" but not "better". i don't play very loudly though.
mostly interested in imaging/soundstage/detail/depth/height...how do you rate these?
wonder if having the sub helps b/c you are rolling the highs off the mains much like the environment controls on active studio monitors?
Now I would say imaging/soundstage/detail is 8 out of 10. Depth and height are very reasonable.
I do find sub helps because I get the deep bass I don't get from the mains and also by limiting them at 80hz they aren't playing the lower register for nothing and seems the rest is clearer.
Sub 10" precision.
Amp ART SLA2
crossover equalizer Behringer FBQ3102 haven't played with eqalizer yet everything is at flat except for the crossover which I am using at 75hz.
I will play with REW and probably adjust equalizer it can only get better. But I like to leave things flat.
