So here is my second build, the Overnight Sensations. These were built to Paul Carmody's specs which can be found at https://sites.google.com/site/undefi...ightsensations
Put the crossovers together using all stock parts listed on his page. I'm not great with tidy layouts so I ended up doing it exactly as Paul's diagram was written. In the future for reverse polarity designs I would switch the color hookup wire, but for some reason I felt it important to keep things the same and just remember to reverse the leads. Last time I used connectors but this time due to small terminals on the drivers I soldered right to the drivers.
For the cabs I decided against the typical black baffle, and also didn't want to mess with veneers. These are for my workshop so I saw no point in going crazy. What I ended up doing was staining the cab bodies with Minwax Jacobean stain, and the baffles I went with Minwax Early American. I thinned the Jacobean just slightly after conditioning to get a marbled effect with the grain. Ended up looking like a loaf of marbled rye in my opinion, so I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Most speakers I see go light on the cabs and dark on the baffles, but I thought it would look pretty nice with the opposite. Ended up using wipe on poly to seal, 9 coats as they are in a dusty dirty area.
Pics of the process are below.
Listening impressions - These things pack a punch. Very pleased with the output and clarity of sound. Most times I am using Pandora or Songza so its nice they don't need uber high quality files to sound nice. Powering with a vintage Kenwood Receiver, which is more than enough to drive these. Very very pleased.
