Not really. Take say one of my other RETAIL Speakers by Yamaha NS-1738 Retailed for @ $900 a piece when new. I spend $100 on rebuilding and designing the cross over and now the Yamaha DIY project sounds better than the stock one. Not funny just pure logic! OR, A "commercial" offering of $900 RETAIL that say has only about $300 worth of parts each VS $900 worth of BETTER drivers and parts designed by a competent person or group of people built DIY?

NOT funny just pure and simple common sense!

Please talk more about the finish. They look great.

First I sealed the box with a wood sanding sealer 2 coats http://www.menards.com/main/interior...34-c-13129.htm Then I used ahttp://www.eastwood.com/contour-poly...-eastwood.html Polyester Primer Surfacer as it was the only Primer that worked with a catalyst"hardener" that I had on hand, i wanted something that dried better being its cool in my garage. . It's good for many different material and sands very easy and will never lift or peel! 2 coats but would of liked to do more but was working in a garage that's propane heated and its cold out. Had to get garage HOT then spray, open doors vent fumes then crank heater again.... Used a automotive spot putty to fill in all the dips and rough areas "cut ends" worked very good. When all smooth I used Rust-Oleum Flat Black Enamel spayed with 3 coats. A good match chemically with other coats and drys fast. No clear coat as I didn't have to correct product at time but it'll be OK. Rust-Oleum Enamel's are a great paint and mix well with acetone for cold weather applications.
I have painted and or supervised hundreds of paint jobs on heavy equipment and trucks using some pretty Hi tech. coatings BUT rustoleum enamels still amazes me on the end results per dollar!

Are you making 2 pairs of Mandolins or just 2 different enclosures?

Started on the towers yesterday got one glued and clamped today. Used the Turbo heater to help dry the wood glue or at least keep it from freezing before it drys.

nice job so far. However, if you baffle is solid oak, you might want to take into account seasonal wood expansion and contraction. If you do not, it will compromise the structural integrity of your speaker box.

Thanks for the heads up! That's why I used quartersawn red oak as it is half the moisture content of flat sawn and even less than white oak. I figured to if I used met for back and oak ply for sides to baffle it might minimize it a little too. We will see? I was gunna laminate the and oak and ply but it's just too cold out right now. I have used ply/mdf laminated together before but never the three together, any thoughts?

Got the first coat of stain on and in the house so they don't freeze out in the garage. Just need to sand and clear coat and then hand them over to wife!;) She wanted Oak so gota keep her happy
