Newest subwoofer build

Building this sub for a customer to match her small towers with two 6.5" woofers and tractrix horn tweeter. Made it out of 3/4" mdf with good bracing and covered with cherry veneer and solid cherry corners and trim on the top. Used the M&K sub amp which is more than enough for her 900 sf home. Used a 12" Klipsch K-1071A sub and a 4" precission flared port.

Downfiring on 3" solid cherry laminated legs. Heavy as crub. I lined cabinet with Walmart felt sheets (23 cents each) than roofing felt, more walmart felt, roofing felt etc then 2" of fiberglass.

Cabinet is very dead and sound is full and rich.

OK, shamed me in advance - I was just about to put a raw plywood sub in my living room.

I doubt if I can come even close to your build in any case but now I've gotta try.

Yeah, you've crossed over to fine furniture making with that. Very nice.

How did you attach the felt to the cabinet? I've often used 3/16ths inch felt spray-glued to the insides of many of my cabinets, but just one layer. I don't know why I did it other than to counteract the "echo-y" sound from all those sound waves bouncing around.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

A buddy that used to work at EV suggested this method. AttachWal-Mart soft felt to cabinet with some flexible glue (keep it loose so it can move some to absorb show. I would have used Aleene's glue but ran out. I also hit it with some staples. Then a layer of roofing felt with rows of glue and more staples (I wan't trying to get this flat but to have some give to absorb vibrations to try to prevent them from getting to the cabinet. THen start over with the soft felt. I guess you can do this as much as you like. I did 3 layers then the 2" fiberglass. Apparently Don Weems suggested a similar method in his famous book which may have been the precursor to Dynamat (just guessing). I had the roof felt and at 23 cents the Walmart felt goes a long way -0 probably 10 x 12" and 1/ 16 " thick.

I've used the adhesive roofing roll before but never was sure if it gave off fumes that could damage the woofer surround.

Wolf I search Wal-Mart (in the south we call it "Walmarts") and can't find the individual sheets marked at 23 cents each. I can swear they are there in the fabric section with different colors (I used red and black). The second purchase I got 30 of them but the cashier couldn't find the product code so she gave me 30 for 23 cents! Should have gone back for 100 more.

They look like the ones shown in link below.

We don't even have fabrics in our local Walmarts anymore.

That may change. Walfart is renovating several and putting fabrics back in some.

The roofing felt looks to be about $20 for a 3' by 144' roll. A person could line a lot of speakers with that much!
I bet some folks here would still run that roll dry in a decade or less, though.
