It's been a bit of a road to get here but I finally got these done! As I said in my build thread here quite a few of us won these drivers as door prizes over the summer at various DIY events. I know Wolf has simmed a design with this driver - the Mangusta's - but I don't think anyone else has a design with them yet.

Design goals for this project was for a small two way for kitchen/bedroom use that didn't take up too much room and was fairly inexpensive to build, so I paired the woofer with the Dayton ND25FA tweeter. Now that the CF120's price dropped almost $20 these can be made for about $150 a pair plus the cabinets. The cabinet is small at only 5lt and tunes the woofer to 60hz with 2x6" port. Crossover is a 12db on the woofer and 18on the tweeter centered around 3k. I did struggle with the crossover a bit, adding a notch filter and a few other components trying to smooth the curve out, but ended up back with a simple 6 component circuit. Sometimes less is more I guess. They are finished with a Maple veneer and have 4 coats of rubbed on poly. I picked the lighter coloured veneer as I wanted a nice black/white contrast to the speakers.

I set them up last night in the garage with one of those SMSL chip amps that Rory had posted about the other week. I have to say the amount of bass that came out of these was pretty impressive for a little 4" driver. Compared to my ID entry this year these guys are a little more laid back on the top end but have a pretty nice overall response.

In room response,

Impedance,

Final sim, (I think...)

This was a fun little project and I look forward to listening to them quite a bit over the holidays. They will be my main speakers for the next little while as I sold my ID speakers last week, and I haven't started my next build yet (an SB floorstander).
Merry Christmas!
