I.S.C.T. - 'Hearing Music The Way The Artist(s) Intended It To Be Heard'
Re: I.S.C.T. - 'Hearing Music The Way The Artist(s) Intended It To Be Heard'
Please do not take my comments as an insult. I was trying to help you show off your design to others in this forum by explaining how people talk in here and what kinds of things they talk about when discussing speaker building.
I also like when people ask questions. So we are the same in that regard.
I also respect your reasons for why you made your photos the way you did. You will notice I did not insult your creativity. I only wanted to warn you that making creative photos in that way, in my experience, is similar to how people create advertisements. The way you described your project is also similar to an advertisement. Advertising your products as something to purchase may not be acceptable here on the forums so I wanted you to know that.
Again, please do not take my comments as insults. It is obvious that you really like your designs by the way you talk about them. I want to feel the same way about them. Others here probably want to feel the same way, too. That is why Chris asked the questions he did.
So are your speakers just subwoofers and 6x9 coaxial designs? Please tell us about some of the technical challenges you faced or give us an overview of your building technique. This ISCT method you mention looks very similar to the translam building technique used by many here in the forum. Maybe this will get people to ask more questions. Maybe even some photos showing your build process, not creatively altered, would help us understand better.

"Crossovers, I have a few, but then again too few to mention". Yeah Is that white piece in the decoupling ring pic a big rubber gasket? Are decoupling rings big in NZ, or is that all yours?
Hi there,
Thanks for the reply & your question!
This can be very well answered in at least two different ways very simple as in – ‘Decoupling, the prevention of undesired energy transfer between ….’ well as in electronically terms when they use acoustic Instrument lacquers on electronic amplifier boards etc. which people say does great thinks.
Or in a far more complex way when it comes to audio enclosures, and you know that resonance is the biggest enemy so as we can’t completely eliminate these unwanted to get this elusive pure clarity we are searching for in audio, and in its reproduction including less distortion etc. so you try brake these down as minute you can with thickness, shape and size and so on.
It depends of course totally on how committed you would be to that issue of perfect sounds & its reproduction, and the level, high standards you have personally for your music as it starts already in the alternate enclosure wall thicknesses of an enclosure preventing them to (as in rectangular coffins) acting as transducer.
These decoupling rings are at some degree a visual item and effective as such, but it is not only the outer ring which does all the work so in my modeling I use mostly two, and here again it is important to use them right! Material is an issue and with that the treatment – then the placing or better I say the distance of it is very important etc. etc. So all in all very easy measurable electronically and done so before many times, but as said it is only worse your while if you are looking for real solid improvements in your audio.
Using wood screws through the rim of the speaker chassis into the wood directly etc. does not give an effect other then multipling everything ....
Now before I forget: Please do not thing that this is ONLY important for subs – NO not at all!!! It is important for the complete range of the frequencies your chassis is reproducing. Subs obviously with very great advantages, but if you have say a bookshelf enclosure which should have bass, mid-range etc. or a 2-3 way enclosure any one really as you want to prevent lower frequencies to smear, colour ….. the higher once – and so on!
Actually far to much to go on with far to complex, but I hope that I was able to anser your question and you have something positive out of this.
"Crossovers, I have a few, but then again too few to mention". Yeah Is that white piece in the decoupling ring pic a big rubber gasket? Are decoupling rings big in NZ, or is that all yours?
rgds, djg
Well, YES I do have actuall a few as I get my once build overseas, and over the years I accumelated a few!!! All my crossover were / are build from my ideas but also with the help of the person(s) who build them.
Now I'm not quiet sure about what it is about that rubber gastket you mentiond, but anyway you have your believes and I have knowledge which always comes out on top as you are the one which is missing out - not me!!!
Re: I.S.C.T. - 'Hearing Music The Way The Artist(s) Intended It To Be Heard'
As per the above write up here a few new Images to be shown what happen on the weekend.
The body part has been covered with charcoal artificial leather! The decoupling ring is only used presently to mould into the cutout.
Side view 1: The colour scheme is related to our New Zealand indigenes people which use Black, Red & White in there Art! I have used charcoal instead of solid black as the main colour as black comes with the PR’s & most speaker chassis. All colours are artificial leather.
Side view 2:
Nothing as yet is trimmed still all quiet raw, but a view of some of the structual.

The test of the machine is the satisfaction it gives you. There isn't any other test. If the machine produces tranquility it's right. If it disturbs you it's wrong until either the machine or your mind is changed.

I'm surprised you haven't incorporated Quantum Purifiers in your designs. Check them out when you have the chance. Frequency response plots are a lot smoother with these devices in place.
Some people are addicted to Vicodin. I'm addicted to speaker building.

And again as per the above write up here a few new Images to be shown what happen after the weekend.
Just a raw / coarse assembly to figure out the rest of items to be ordered Etc. and I'm still waiting for the speaker chassis to arrive so here just a fitting with substitutes chasssis!
Re: I.S.C.T. - 'Hearing Music The Way The Artist(s) Intended It To Be Heard'
So....... it looks like you use a universal box with four standard openings. Then, spacers(decoupling rings) and caps(hole covers) for each finished speaker configuration. Plus, someone else designs your crossovers. Is this on the right track?
