You mean Ani's? He used the 15" Series II Dayton woofers.

Thanks guys. The widebody was fun and I really had no idea how the vote would go. All of the designs of course were wide but that is about where the similarities ended. All of them were stellar. I should have a full write up on them soon.

Thanks also for your words on the Misfits. They have received much more praise than I would have ever expected. Inexpensive design that plays well above its price point. Heard that a few times. A thread is coming on those as well.

Lol John if I have that many projects to show again, my wife will not be very happy with me! But the longer I have to prepare for next year, the better. My schedule is not really slowing down any time soon.

Would you happen to have the list of music/recordings that was used for testing?

No I don't have it. Ben might publish the official house track listing.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Ben's inductor test bed. Those who came for Saturday only did not get a chance to hear it, but I would say that most of us who participated on Friday did notice differences between inductors used. I will not try to explain it or relay what the results were, but Perhaps Ben will chime in when he gets a chance and elaborate on what he did and what the consensus generally seemed to be.

This was a great demo. The difference in sound was significant.

I wondered whom would be the first to mention this. I didn't want to toot my own horn about it, so I let it ride. This experience utilized my Cecropia project I recently constructed.

I have 5 different coils in the woofer circuit, and 6 different coils in the tweeter circuit that I can switch in or out at will, as well as a shorting switch on the 3rd order cap on the tweeter to change from LR4 to a BW3 acoustic response. I did inform the crowd what I was switching in terms of circuit, but not the parts involved. Nobody knew my preferred before the setup, nor did they know what was being used.

I know I played the following, and I think it was the order, along with switching in and out of BW3/LR4:
14 Litz on both; this is my preferred, and I started with it. Crowd just listened.
14 air on both; Crowd said a 'dryer' result in sound.
14 foil on woofer/12 foil on tweeter; nobody liked this.
Returned to initial setting for comparison.
15 P-core on woofer/16 Waxcoil on tweeter; most did not like the bass.
                    Initial setting again.
18 I-core on woofer/Air 22 on tweeter; one person liked tweeter, all else did not, but most liked the bass. One asked to set tweeter to initial setting, and leave the bass from this one.
18 I-core on woofer/14 Litz on tweeter; This was the crowd's preferred setting as a majority, while the LR4 was preferred for most recordings, and BW3 for those that preferred some vocal enhancement. The bass is a bit emphasized with the I-core over some others, but I guess the general consensus as a whole is bass is good, no matter how much.

                    Some comments:
Dan says he preferred the Litz on both, and at the BW3 setting. Matt agrees. I like both the LR4 and BW3, as a source-dependent setting. I find the BW3 can be a bit shouty sometimes, where the LR4 is not.
Rory said he likes that I do this sort of demonstration thing, as he always comes away having learned something.

Feel free to state what you heard.

We used Suzanna Hoffs version of 'The Look of Love' from the Austin Powers soundtrack for this procedure/test. This was the first track from the house disc this year.
2- Counting Crows 'Round here' LIVE.
3- Jim Henson's Muppets 'Mahna Mahna'
                    4- Natalie Cole 'Route 66'
                    5- Eagles 'Dueling Daltons'
                    6- Kylie Minogue '____'
                    7- Big Star '____'
                    8- Disturbed 'Sound of Silence'

I think Matt will be able to fill in the blanks with a more succinct and detailed track list.

The Widebodies Challenge was utilizing Dan Neubecker's disc, tracks 1-5, so he can inform the masses of those.

I'm glad it was informative, as it was a challenge to emulate and create. I found it solidified my hunch that coils do indeed sound different.

I think I am going to upgrade my Satori tweeters to Litz, maybe the woofer also. Thanks for sharing the tracks, I am going to test those out.

Now I cannot guarantee that it works for all cases. I can see why some types might work better for certain drivers, as it's pretty much the same for capacitors. However- I think the coils were easier to discern.

I missed the inductor test all together as well as the speaker selector - I thought about asking Ben to do a head to head with my WideBody with another widebody for A/B comparison - guess I was too tired after the long drive in :-(
