  • New Peerless STW350 woofer on the horizon.....

188mm voice coil, 40mm usable operational Xmax, and a sensitivity of 85.5dB. My guess is PE may sell these down the road....

I saw these pictured in the new 2016 LIS sourcebook that comes with the AudioXpress subscription, and I had to look them up.

The first link isn't opening for me, but the second says 10.5mm of xmax. Looks like a beefy driver though.

Spec says AL basket which suggests Aluminium basket from my college chemistry.

2 fairly diff. sets of specs (each set having some incongruities). One shows Q in the mid 0.40s, other is high 0.50s.

High Q set shows an F3 in the upper teens in about 4cf, vented. Shows LOW 30s, ALSO in 4cf, sealed.
Mid Q set also shows vented F3 under 20 in 4cf, but sealed F3 is high 30s in 2cf.

Wolf Those pics make it look like a beast! Reminds me a little of the HiVi SP10.

Just got the other link to open. As Chris said, specs don't match on the two links. The data in the first PDF doesn't even match the description in it. The description says +/- 20mm and the data table says +/- 10 mm. It looks like it should have a lot more than 10 mm.

Also noticed that the bottom of the PDF shows that it has screw mounts in the bottom of the magnet to bolt the driver to bracing! That is a great idea/feature for a heavy duty sub.

If the PDF marked "final" is really final.... it will be a beast.

If the xmax spec of 10 mm is one way, I can see where they claim 20 mm linear excursion, but they also give xmech as 90mm!

The aluminum basket has 16 spokes, and this monster also has 2 aluminum shorting rings.
I've been trying to figure out the cutaway in the pdf, and the gap area has me confused.
It almost looks like a form of double-gap assembly, which would be why the Xmax calculated would be 10mm and the usable would be 40mm.

Recent I saw this double-gap technology from JBL, claiming low distortion and high power handling, among other things.

Note on xmax in the datasheet. Knowing Peerless, the xmax is likely specified as coil length - gap height divided by two. The note in the specs sort of confirms this.
Note for the Xmax: The driver is a long gap (36mm) and long coil(58mm) design. This is a benefit for a subwoofer with long excursion (40mm). The driver can still maintain the coil in the gap to provide appropriate motor strength

Everything is exiting except for the sensitivity...
